I just got a new white Macbook, specs below:

    Core 2 Duo @ 2.16GHz
    1GB of DDR2 667Mhz RAM
    120GB 5400RPM HD
    Superdrive

There is a set of 3GB RAM at Newegg for around 170. I was wondering if this one a good pair to buy for my Macbook. I think it's the only pair, so I guess I have no other choice. Does anybody use this RAM, or does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks

well you could really just get any 2gb stick and another 1gb stick and it would work. but you really might not need 3 gigs. what are you planning on doing that you think you need all 3 gigs for?

You should only get 2gb or ram if you have a macbook. If the sticks don't match in size it can't utilize dual channel and the graphics card will run a bit slower.

Feel free to correct me if i'm horribly off.

well, the 3GB of RAM at Newegg come in the same pack. So they are not different in size or brand. They are the same. I just want 3 so I can unleash the Mac's full potential. Basically, I'm going to be doing school work on this machine, as well as playing around with photo and video editing. I will be also be gaming on it, but nothing to extreme like Crysis. Should I just stick with 2? I would really like to get 3 though.

Most editing will be for fun. The games I had in mind to play are as follows:

    Neverwinter Nights
    The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind
    Doom (the old one)
    Starcraft
    Possibly Guitar Hero III
    Medal of Honor Allied Assault
    Age of Empires
    Civilization
The Sims 1 and its expansions
    Rollercoaster Tycoon
    Unreal Tournament 2004
*Possibly Far Cry, but that's stretching it.

These games aren't too graphic intensive, but I would like to have the extra RAM to back it up. I will probably be ordering some tonight.

PS: How do I uninstall something? I installed a Halo Demo on the MAC HD, but now I want to uninstall it. Do I just have to delete the folder? Sorry, I'm new to Macs. And also, where do I go to install my video card drivers? Do I just install the drivers from the Intel site?

your gonna want 2gb then. If you go 3 you will lose dual channel so you wont actually be releasing the full potention of a macbook since dual channel aids more than just the video card. Anything that accesses the ram will be slightly slower. Also according to apple's site the macbook only supports up to 2gb, not sure if its correct or not since i dont have one.

Yes, 2 GB of RAM will be good. 3 GB of RAM will not have dual channel support, which limits the GMA 950.

Ricey20, in a way, Apple recommends you only put 2 GB of RAM on the MacBook, but it has the ability to support up to 3 GB, if absolutely necessary. That's why on Apple's site it states 2 GB.

Okay, thanks for the replies. However, I would like to know if there is a way to upgrade my drivers for the Intel GMA 950. And also, how do I uninstall programs. I downloaded some demos from Mac Games website, but I want to uninstall some of them. Do I just delete the folders?

From the New Mac Owners section of the Mac Switcher's Guide:

Just Google AppDelete if you decide you want it.

In the future, please read over the stickies before asking your question :), because I wrote them for a reason: to answer commonly asked questions. It seems like everyone ignores them or something :(.

i think the best thing to do is to bring up spotlight (option + command + space), type in the name of the file, press cmnd a to select all, and drag them into the trash. now obviously, if theres something else on the HD with a similar name, you wont wana delete that, so dont do select all and just press cmnd as your clicking on the files related to the game and delete just those.

Sometimes applications/games have their own uninstallers. These are typically applications/games that were originally installed through an installation package (as opposed to you dragging a file/folder from the contents of a dmg to your Application folder). In that case, you may be able to use the uninstaller.

One example is Micro$oft Office 2004. To uninstall Office 2004 go to Applications/Micro$oft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office.

More commonly though, you may need to run the original installation package and choose the option to Uninstall. I usually check the application/game's support website to see if they provide information on how to properly uninstall their software ;).

If your going to spend $170 on 3GB you might as well spend $200 for 4GB(2GB x2) at newegg ...... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208323
Then you can utilize dual channel with no problem.

This is what I plan to do as soon as I get my MACBook Pro.

EDIT: Or does the MACbook only support 3GB?

The MacBook only supports up to 3 GB of RAM. The new Santa Rosa MBPs can support up to 4 GB.

It actually only a 2% difference but matters in intensive task.

This is a MacBook you bought with the intention of gaming 1 month before the refresh????
The Graphics card is low Low end but it may barely suit you.

A MacBook Pro would have been better.
Its simple to uninstal just drag the file from the applications folder to the trash.

I'm not doing heavy gaming. I might not even play all those games that I have listed. I also didn't care for the Macbook refresh. Also, I read that you can install 4GB of RAM on the Macbook, yet it will only read about 3.3GB of it.
