I don't think it was meant to be more negative. Its simply just an "indifferent" option for people who don't feel one way or the other.

And as for the new MBs...AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I personally feel it is the best looking laptop ever made. Spec-wise, no, not even close to Dells Precision line, but since this is about looks, only people who have seen it up close should vote. I used to say it's ugly online, until my friend brought it over for me to look at.

And wow, everything about it is just beautiful. I love how their products tie in to one another.

Don't like the new design very much either.

1.) Don't like the black border around the screen
2.) Don't think the black keys go well

I'll be keeping my older MBP for a while.. just need to add some more RAM :)

I am I one that wanted them to change the looks and i liked the result. The problem I have is the one piece glass screen, with the black frame. I still will not get the MBP because of the GPU (not good enough). Oh yeah forgot black keys on the aluminum is not my cup of tea.

At first I thought the new design was butt ugly, but when I saw one in the store - wowzers! I loved it. I definitely think it's the best looking laptop right now.

I owned the previous gen mbp and while my heart has a place for that design, it is now replaced with the new unibody mbp.

The screen is gorgeous and I love the black border and the unibody is flawless!

I thought I wouldnt like the keyboard at first but I really do love it for looks and the tactile feel of it is perfect, even better than the previous gen mbp's keyboard.

I the new look is perfect for the MacBook, but not the MacBook Pro. They've done enough changes for me to rethink my future notebook purchases with Apple.

I don't think they went far enough. Should've made the whole thing black.

It would, but it would also look horrible if it got scratched, because the black would get scratched off and show the aluminum under the black coat. I think it would look great though.

It has a coating of something that I don't know of, but I'm positive there is a coating of something on the new notebooks, because pitting exposes the real aluminum underneath the coating.

Wonder how many people who actually own one/have seen one in person think they're ugle? Personally, I think silver with back trim is the perfect color scheme (short of all black, but how many black, ALL PLASTIC, laptops are there)?

And the size, weight, and lack of creaking plastic outdoes every laptop on the market similarly specced....

I went for the second option (pretty cool) and not for the first because I don`t have any boyfriend/girlfriend (is more difficult to trade a wife), but I find my MacBook Pro really sexy...it is even a bit slippery...

If it is really beautiful, you don't have to see it in person to like it, you should like it from the very first sight seeing even the picture. To be honest, I think macbook pro is the best looking laptop on the market, but still I think the black frame is just OK, and I can totally understand why there are 25% says meh and 9% is totally negative.

my negativity toward the new mb/p is primarily due from having the previous generation (oh yes)

as much as i adored the design of the new mb/p, i find any glare annoying, albeit the use of a better screening due from glass

overall i like the all out silver design over silver/black anyways, as well as the previous gen keyboard.

as far as practicality goes, old ibm keyboard >> everything, i feel a slight enjoying typing on it while moot w/ mbp... i suppose this is due from the key stroke being not as deep

that's my preference though, i do feel more happy with mbp over other better-performance/price-notebook at the same price so apple had done well.

They aren't bad looking, not great, but not bad...

Of course how a laptop looks should be completely secondary to price and performance.

You don't buy a laptop to look pretty.

Lol, you could say the same thing about any product...personally, I prefer a Mustang over a Camaro, just like I prefer a MBP over a Dell...in each case the job gets done, so it really does come down to preference...

I purchased the aluminum MBP soley for the looks. I wasn't in the market for a new laptop until I saw it in person. I did get a awesome deal and I admit that was a factor in my decision as well.

For me, if the price and performance are the same... looks might come into consideration... but I'd likely choose based upon features.

This isn't really a fair comparison, however... if the camaro had 2x the performance and cost 33% of the price, you'd still buy the mustang eh?
(admit it, you just like the Ford sticker better)

In the case of the new 17" Macbook pro, for what they want you can build a custom Sager/Clevo with ALL the bells and whistles... (including blu-ray)
OR with a promotion could get a quad-core SLI "laptop".

The new 17" macbook pro is massively overpriced for its small feature list.
It is worth about $1500 even counting the typical mac-markup.

Except the Sager/Clevo will weigh at least 1/3 more, be prob 1/3-1/2 larger and be really ugly (see sig below, I can compare a clevo product right next to my MBP). If I had it to do over again, that would be MBP times 2 and no Clevo build in my sig...

p.s. I am running an 06 Mustang GT...performance tuned. I have seen the new Camaro coming out...it could be 1/2 of what I paid for the GT and I'm not buying it. Now the Challenger?

As soon as I saw the design, the first thing I thought was "What the hell did they try and do, model a dalmation?" I gave it the chance of seeing it up close when a few of my dorm-mates got them, but it was still unimpressive. Granted, I'm not a huge Apple fan, but I have always given them props for their design, in particular, if I could change one thing about my laptop I'd probably change the chassis shape to be more like that of a MBP while retaining the black. IMO, this macbook is a step back from the direction apple was going with last gen's MBs and MBPs. Making the whole thing one color would go a long way imho.
