New MacBook Pro, Air and Mac Pro pricing potentially leaked by Apple ads

"Could this be another example of online advertising presaging the onset of a hardware upgrade from Cupertino? Apple's ads on Australian tech pub PC Authority have been spotted displaying some rather peculiar price tags for its flagship mobile and desktop computers. Whereas Cupertino's Aussie online store lists the most affordable versions of the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Pro at A$1,599, A$1,999 and A$3,599, respectively, the above, official-looking ads would seem to disagree. Clicking on them still leads to the currently priced (and specced) machines, but looking at them suggests that -- in the absence of some major conspiracy or a splendidly random price hike -- we're getting an early peek at the pricing of the newly updated models of each of those series. The MacBook Air has jumped by A$400 so that what used to be its costliest base price is now its lowest, while the MBP has suffered a A$300 bump in cost of entry. Then again, considering the expectation that the mobile computers will get Core i7 CPUs while the Mac Pro will get all dressed up with Core i7-980X regalia, this development is perhaps not all that surprising. The major thing to take away here is that the long-awaited upgrades might finally be arriving. We're putting our piggy banks on alert, just in case."

I'd be really surprised if this is real. Its probably just a gaff. I can't see apple increasing the prices by that much, especially given the current economic climate, and there recent pushes to lower prices across their range.
Furthermore, the Oz dollar is very strong at the moment, so this alone should reduce the price not increase it. That or absorb any possible increase made by apple.

Agreed. Although it is giving me more time to save money so I can buy a better model.

 

I predict that apple will release new mbp's !
And that they will cost money !
And that you will be able to do stuff on them !
They will have a cpu and a gpu and some form of storage !

Apple will be re-releasing the old macbooks with the same hardware stats but an even prettier apple sticker which will raise the price by about $2000 in all models.

We were discussing how every single image on the internet with the apple logo/brand/product, and a featured number, is CLEARLY a hint to the release of their new double-hex-core-laptop-but-too-powerful-to-even-be-considered-a-laptop-ram-n-stuffz, laptop.

Highly doubt there will be a price increase unless there is a huge jump of upgrades for every component of the updated notebook.

 

I bet Apple was getting great deals on the Core2Duos since the iX processors came out... I can't see how (if they want to keep their absurd profit margin) they could upgrade the processor and maybe other internals and still keep the price down... Maybe if they used AMD gpus?

 

You guuys are clearly funnier than the acer or asus crowd. And don't even get me started on the Sony fanatics.

the constant managed "leaks" by apple is extremely frustrating. they've been doing it for months for the impending refresh. it just forces people to wait and wait and wait....

Ever notice that those girls always have the most suitors hanging out to see if they will ever get a peek? Same strategy seems to work fine for Apple.

I heard the new macbooks are going to be invisible, weight next to nothing, and have so much battery life you never have to charge them.

 

Yup... this will be because they are no longer actually computers... just clear plastic with an apple sticker.

It will still have 99% of the important features most mac users want most!
