If you ask me, this Tuesday seems a bit early...that's only two days from now, and Leopard was just launched...but hard to say. Apple will want to get a new MacBook out as soon as possible, if they plan to.
Do you guys see this happening?
-
Cross your fingers for Santa Rosa MacBooks ASAP! LED screens too!
-
-
Santa Rosa MacBooks, almost for sure. LED-backlit screens would be awesome!
Can't wait to see what Apple is planning to do with the MacBook, whether that will be Tuesday, later next month, or even in January. -
, like they update OSes on Fridays (Leopard was released on Friday, as you can see), and they update hardware on Tuesdays. So if it happens in November, it'd probably be the 6th...if it happens this Tuesday, it'll be the 30th of October.

When do you think the *next* update would be? Is it reasonable to expect a further update before September 2008?
-
Although if Apple decides to "upgrade" the MacBook to a prosumer version, such as what they did with the iMac, then the MacBook might be regularly updated along with the MBP. -
I sure hope that it's this tuesday. I plan on purchasing one as soon as they update them... and I'm so anxious!
This is good news... -
AuroraS (I will resist from calling you by first name in order not to confuse anyone
), have you tried out Leopard yet? Simply Computing on Broadway (next to Future Shop) has it on their Macs already, you might want to try it out
.
-
Thanks for the heads up, Sam
I'll be sure to check it out if I have time this week.
-
The Macbook kind of needs a bump. Even $500 ultrabudget laptops from other companies now come with the x3100 GPU and a DVD burner. (Sure, the processor's a bit weaker, but still....) So I'm guessing some sort of spec bump will happen... and if it does, as Sam said, it'll almost certainly include the x3100. As for LED screens... I'm guessing not just yet.
-
I also doubt that they'll have LED screens... not right now at least. If they want to keep the cost down on the Macbooks, they won't add an LED backlit screen. I really wish that they did have them though... but the current Macbook screens are sufficiently bright, IMO.
-
I think the LED is a go, taking was SJ said about there plans to introduce it on the smaller screens this year. The mb with LED just makes sense to me. I'll put money with sam that if they do come early nov it will be the 6th or 13th.

Hey AuroraS its been a while since I've had the pleasure to post with you! Also nice to see that you planing on coming to the apple side, although I loved my asus, osx is just soooo much nicer than vista/xp, I hope it works out for you too. -
So, AuroraS... what's the story? Is the Gibbon just a little too gutsy for you, or what? -
How about the long-rumored Macbook Thin (the 12" version of the Macbook Pro)? Any chance of a release of that on Tuesday, the next month, or anytime in the near future for that matter?

Bought a macbook this weekend ... now have the whole lot on standby for return as it seems the update is iminent!
Only issue is iim in NY when my 14 dyas is up - so im hoping my sister can return it on my behalf! -
-
I have read somewhere that actually Apple plans to upgrade soon or later all screens with LED technology, but i'm not sure if they'll wait until the cost of this technology drops down, before introducing it into macbooks
-
Any slight upgrade with thrill me! I've been a Windows user for years and I am poised to by my first Mac.
With the rumors of updated hardware I've been biding my time. I didn't want to go ahead and buy it and miss out on updated hardware by just a few weeks. The suspense is killing me though so I am hoping for an announcement ASAP. -
So are we going to have these now every Tuesday until it comes out? LOL! That is how it works when these start up, just keep predicting it will happen next Tuesday. Sooner or later you will be right!
In all seriousness, I would not be surprised if it does happen in the next week or two, likely on a Tuesday. -
I am delaying my purchasing of x61s to see how good the new macbook is. If it has what I want, I may even switch to MAC! OMFG!
Anyway, I am also waiting for the new dell tablet, but I bet it'll be expensive (LED + hybrid tablet compatibilities + ati xpress 1250 (which is better than x3100))
My biggest concern with the new macbook is battery life (The advertised battery life for macbook is 6 hours, but realistically, only 4 hours can be achieved). So, I really hope the new macbook would be able to atleast achieve 5 hours.
What do you guys think about the battery life of the new mb? If they add LED, the Santa Rosa + LED would somewhat improve the battery life. -

Have you seen this? Leopard included drivers for the Intel X3100 so that would give a hint as to what we would expect.

Also, would the Macbook have a new design? I sure hope they include more than 3 USB ports. -
damn, i'm confused as hell..i REALLY want a computer, but apple makes it hard releasing something every month...
I don't want to pay for something & then have better model release two months later. -

. But if they do update to LED-backlighting and Santa Rosa, then of course the MacBook will have even better battery life.
-
But x61s has 7 hours+and I have to make a choice between the two.... and I kinda wanna try mac, but the battery life is my only criteria at this point as everything else is pretty much similar.
-
-
That's the problem, I really wanna try Mac OS + Mac laptops, but I want the battery to last well into 4 hours, and I know the macbook is capable, but just barely, and requires a lot of idling + low brightness etc. -
. It is a really good time to try out OS X (and of course, with Boot Camp and Parallels/VMware Fusion, you don't need to fully get away from Windows either), and this would be your best case.

Yeah, I'm a macboy now. I love my macbook, and on the plus side I think ASUS may have made it!

Doesn't Apple announce that something is coming out on a future date at least a week in advance?
What time of day would they make such an announcement?
I assume that there are apple history buffs here. -
So any news to the original question?
-
Dang, doubted it would happen... but I was hoping. My bro is getting a macbook soon and it would be cool to have checked out the refresh in person
-
I still have not bought my Macbook Pro yet (I have a shopping cart all ready on MacMall though
) but should I wait... It would be hard to put off getting a shiny new computer for 2-3 months, but if everyone believes it would be worth it I might.. ?

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Disappointed again

-
I hear ya blue sky, I think I will be pulling the trigger though, going for the 15" 2.2 Ghz so the increase of Penryn won't be as noticable (I hope...fingers crossed
)

To hell with this thread...
Just guessing isn't going to satisfy anyone's curiosity. -
I agree, but for another reason than unsatisfied curiosity. I´m bored to the point where listening to a cricket match on the radio means fun. I´m waiting for new Apple hardware since late July, oh my, I already was (in no specific order): a) curious, b) hilarious, c) impatiently, d) annoyed, e) uninterested, but now it´s just, well I´m bored. Please, Mr. Applesteveman get the new stuff out and running so I can finally spend a random thousand Euros on new Apple hardware.

Patience, grasshopper.
In the meantime, read more rumors everyday. This information comes from Switch To A Mac, MB & MBP updates soon - release dates analyzed:
-
Guess what didn't come true?
But once again, the rumours back then stated early November, so not necessarily no yet.
Although there is the possibility that Apple skips the Santa Rosa refresh for the MacBook altogether, and just updates it with Penryn right away in early 2008. -
My patience has paid off!!!!
Looks like Apple shipped new Macbooks secretly this week.
MacRumors.com
They are already available online. I'm just wondering when I can go pick one up @ my local store. It seems wrong somehow that there would be much (or any really) overlap with availability on the website compared to what is available in the retail store. Sounds like they have the hardware. We are just waiting on them to get the green light to sell them.
I'm just siked that I will be able to have a Macbook with 4 Gig of RAM. Speaking of which, does anyone know if DDR2 667(PC2 5300) RAM should work in a Macbook? Up to now it has just been for the Pro but I'm guessing the bus on the MB is compatible now. -
And the MacBooks have always used 200-Pin PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz RAM. The difference now is the 4GB maximum support. -
I called my local Mac store and they said to call back this afternoon for more information. Interesting. -
This is amazing...Apple sneaked the MacBook update in!
-
I gotta go back to Apple store ...complain...dont pay their restock fee (15 days havent passed) and change my girlfirends new Macbook for the new revision.
I'm pissed they should have gotten it out at the same time as Leopard.
