I have the new macbook 2.4 with 2gb RAM.

Just was wondering if i could get a speed boost with 4gb. ( not that its slow or anything ? )

I use VM fusion for vista home and it runs slow for me . SO i have to get 4gb, but would the extra 2gb help MAC. I dont game , but videos yes ( at times )

Yeah, I have the extra 2 ( last gen macbook) and I find it to be beneficial. I have a few games that I play a bit too, they run great.

    Hope that helps!

It should help, and if you can get it at a reasonable price then it is a worthwhile upgrade...esp if you are editing large video files, or using visualization software alot.

If you're running Vista in a VM (yeeks) then yeah more RAM can help. A Vista VM can probably run "ok" in 1GB, but if you can give it 1.5-2GB it will probably do a lot better. Of course to do that you're gonna need more than 2GB in your Mac.

Is there some special reason you need Vista in a VM? For typical things needing a Windows VM, XP is a much better choice. (Tho I like Vista on dedicated hardware)

How much is the usual price for 2x2Gb DDR3 RAM anyway?

I saw the price in new egg is like 160$ or 90$ each. Apple price is 150$ for 4Gb.

So it is a good deal to get 4Gb from Apple?

I just bought the MacBook Pro with my wifes corporate discount. The 4GB of ram was only $138. I had the gal from apple throw it on. I'm sure there will be better deals down the road but you can't beat $138 in todays market.

No because you can sell the 2 GB that is already in the Macbook that you get for quite a bit of money so it'll be less than $150 to upgrade afterwards

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.. i am going to upgrade.

Regarding vista.. i like and thought it might be ok.

But many people have suggested using XP in this situation... may try that one too...

I don't need the extra ram now but I'm sure I will in due time, which I why I bought now. Plus at $138 who's to argue? Oh I'm sure someone will, but I'll need the Ram down the road, just as I've found with my current laptop, and the one before that, and the one before that, and the.......

You will definitely notice a boost in performance from 2GB to 4GB.

    So i got a new 4gb ( 2*2gb ram ) and a NEW MACBOOK....

I gave the laptop to the apple store to have the RAM replaced and they found that one screw inside was absent and they couldnt replace that one...
AND they decided to give me a new new mac book ( any way my old one was only 4 days old )

I dont see a much speed boost with most of the applications that i am using ..

THe most notable change is when i use VMware with vista. Earlier the whole system slowed down. But no i dont see any difference in the performance of OSX when my VM ware is running in the background.

When tired to run videos there is no lag in the rest of the OSX

    So far good..

but, you have to take into account that you need to sell it. sure, if you can sell the old stick you can some money back for it. But what if you cannot sell the used ram? careful when you jump to conclusions.

    Yes I will :)

A Seagate 7200.3 320GB can be bought for <$100 and I think it will improve performance more than 4GB for most people.

Unless you're using a lot of applications that need a lot of memory ofcourse.

True the 7200 is faster (if apple can ever get this config too you). And I considered that drive but that thought lasted all of 10 minutes. I just didn't want a degree more of heat on this laptop. I can fry an egg on my dv1000. Major heat issues grow old quickly....
