I have been starting to get familiar with my MBA lately. There are somethings I like better than my PC, some I dislike, but overall I'm enjoying it.

One action I can not figure out how to emulate on OSX is this:

When I connect to my home router, I assign my machines a static IP. This worked in OSX.
When I connect to a school router, they use DHCP. This worked in OSX.

However, when switching back and forth, I have to change my connection preferences and put in the static IP info or change it back to DHCP each time. Is there a utility or a setting that will let OSX know, that when connecting to Network Home I would like it to use my static IP configuration, and when connecting to Network School, it should use DHCP?

Windows couldn't do this natively either, but I used Access Connections to make it work. Is there a built in setting I'm not seeing, or a third party program/app that exists that can do this for me?

    Thanks for the help.

I think what your looking for... is...

In System Preferences under Network, where you choose and set up network stuff, the top has a drop down box for "Locations"

What you want to do is set a home location, and a school location... so the networking preferences will be saved per location. When you get home, you just change your location to Home... when you get to school you change it to school location.

Awesome, that's exactly what I was looking for. I didn't realize I could edit locations, and had left it on automatic. Thanks!
