Yes they will help protect.
They are ugly. -
Those cases will protect your MB from all the scratches, nicks, etc. that you might run across on the outside. But it will also cause your notebook to retain some of it's heat also. For the protection part, I would say go for it, but if you are looking to keep your notebook looking ascetically pleasing and not as hot, then I would say don't go for it.

I've been using one on my new unibody for about a week and the fit is very precise and the vents are completely unobstructed and it looks great for now, my idle and operational temps. have not changed. I think over time the shiny appearance will look pretty crappy, but I would much rather have the scratches show up on a plastic case than the laptop itself. The only thing I don't like about it is the added weight (which isn't much). I just ordered the invisible shield and will give that a shot. This will provide virtually no additional weight and scratch protection but no impact protection.

I use a bunch of those cases, different colors for different moods
But I did stay away from the Speck case, they are simply too expensive.

I bought one from Amazon for $24.
They do protect the laptop very well (my cousin has used one for about a year). With a laptop sleeve, I should have very good protection. -
i bought one off Amazon too. So far I like it. Makes my MBP black to go with all my other electronics. However you have to keep the case clean else dirt may get in and scratch the notebook.

I currently have green, orange, blue, purple, red, black cases.
My macbook dons red bottom and blue top at the moment, was green last week.
For all 6 sets, i got them off eBay for an average of 16usd a piece - inclusive shipping. This was months ago. Served their purpose for the low cost price.

Now do they make a clear one for the new macbook pro's???

I definitely wouldn't recommend it, in the end it will probably cause more problems than it ever would help fight. Anodized Aluminum really doesn't scratch easily and having something clipped onto the edges of the machine or more likely to scratch it's surface than anything most people would do themselves.
Plus it is just added weight (not to mention added ugly) to a very durable and well designed machine. You will be much better off spending your money on a nice case, neoprene or nylon sleeve, etc.
What is the deal nowadays with everyone buying any sort of gadget thinking it always needs a plastic case attached? On an older iPod it makes sense, with a chrome metal back that scratches like crazy, but on a notebook, not so much, iPhone, not so much. -
Well if people wanted to protect their investment, it seems like a logical way to. I don't have one on my MB, because I agree with circa86 that it adds unneeded weight and ugliness to your computer. It's really just a personal opinion.
-
Yea circa, it does add added weight (kinda a lot), and it adds to the size factor, and I guess the ugliness factor, but thats more on the taste of the user.
But personally for me, my hardshells have saved my mac from many scratches, dents and whatever else. The incase hardshell for the old generation, doesnt really clip on to anything other then the small plastic "bezel" around the mbp, and in not as many places as the old spec one.
That old spec one for the previous generation though, WAS UGLY. Id say that the new incase hardshell is a lot nicer.
Also for me, I have a bad with a laptop slot, I dont really need a sleeve, as it would take up more space. i guess other people are like that too. And a hardshell protects te laptop when its outside of the bad/sleeve as well. So yea, I guess it depends on the user, if they go to places where their laptop can be in situations where it might be damaged, either by the user, or by someone else. Obviously though, they arnt for everyone. But I'd rather have the protection then have the possibility of scratches and dents. -
i am going to wait for an incase case, incase never disappointed me
does anyone know when will it be available for the macbook pro? -

cheers ...
