What do you think?

Tell ya once I play with one im getting, the mighty mouse was a nightmare
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
looks pretty cool. im wondering if i can sell my mouse and get one of these.
i have just one requirement: no input lag
(none)
i fear the worst because of the bluetooth, but who knows these days. the blueteeth mice from a few years back all had really bad input lag and I couldn't play first person shooters with them because of it. -
well, I am going to get those new iMac once I figure out how to transport them safely oversee and I will keep/ditch it for my logitech MX depending how good they are!
@ masterchef341: you still won't be able to play games with this mouse since it will be impossible to aim with right click fast enough! also, I doubt that it will perform well under Windows! -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
... yeah ...
pipe dream for the win. -
get razer deathadder for serius FPS gaming! nothing beats it!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
whats the difference between the gaming mouse and the mac edition?
-
mac edition is white and, predictably, more expensive
-
That's a cool mouse, I'm going to mess with it at apple store and see if it's worth it.
-
i didn't like the mighty mouse...hope this one is better...i was actually looking at a logitech vx revolution...this mouse is just awesome!!!
-
the the feet is really ugly.
otherwise, it looks good from most perspective. thank god they ditch the scroll-ball. -
My MX 1000 just bit the dust and I couldn't find another one other than used in China on eBay, so I bought the Revolution. It's okay, but I'd pay DOUBLE to have a brand new MX 1000. I can't believe they stopped making it. BY FAR the best non-gaming mouse ever. I'm gonna mess around with the Magic~Mouse at a local Mac store and see how I like it.
-
I'm glad they got rid of that cursed scroll nipple.
-
If anyone got this, can they tell us if you can actually replace the two AA batteries inside?
Thanks
-
For $70, I expect more than just one button. Well, the mouse kind of us two buttons but that still isn't good enough for $70. Multitouch? That might make it worthwhile, but I cannot see some of those gestures working very well on a mouse.
Just think...for $40 you get a mouse that actually fits your hand, comes with a great scroll wheel, and has what...five?...buttons. Yup. -
OK got mine and used it for awhile today .... consensus ... its going in the drawer.
GOOD
1. YES you can change the batteries in it
2. the scroll features were pretty nice to use
BAD
1. its an ergonomic nightmare if you need to actually chase it over CAD drawings all day long, and I hope you got good medical insurance if you retouch photos with it your wrists WILL be screwed
2. 2 finger multitouch is cute but impractical as you have to hold the mouse with your thumb and little finger and run zoom etc. with index and middle ( easiest for me )
3. I think my old BALL mouse was as accurate, the resolution is horrid and forget using it on shiny surfaces, I used a glass desk, and a cheapo white melamine table with huge jumps, my wooden desk and a textured surface .... it was OK, textured with a pattern was best.
4. where the heck is a charger I really dont need more crap with AA batteries. ( minor )
6. Bluetooth dropped out occasionally. but I admit my test bench has alot of RFI
7. Can we have a windows driver please?, no extra functions work in windows
Masterchief... it SUCKS in FPS, we got input lag and crappy resolution if I cant stand it in an RTS game im not even trying it FPS
...... back to my Logitech MX and my Razer mamba/deathadder -
The Legitech MX is really hard to top IMO. The multitude of programming beats out current multi touch offerings.
-
its a cool mouse... but I hate wireless for a mouse. If they made a wire version I'd buy it.
-
Well, I'm not an artist or editor, and I'm almost 6'4" with huge hands and I love it! I picked mine up yesterday at a local Mac store. The only complaint I have is that the tracking-speed is much slower than I'm used to with my Logitech's I've owned over the years. I cranked it to the highest setting and it's pretty good. The 'accelerating' scroll is perfect, and the mouse is heavy enough to stay-put if you are just using the finger gestures and not moving the cursor around...... What I mean by that is that you don't have to 'squeeze' it... be gentle with it, and it'll be fine. I wish Apple would just make an external trackpad with ALL of the finger-gesture features built-in. That would be cool. A stationary external mouse-pad, slightly tilted back, exactly like the ones on the MBP's...... I'd buy one for sure!!!
Oh, back to my new mouse. Batteries are super-easy to access, and I like it. I'm not putting my Logitech Revolution in a drawer (yet). -
I picked this up from the Apple Store yesterday as well - Loving it!
Its perfect for "on the couch" computing, and it looks great on my desk.
I haven't noticed any resolution issues, as I used it in Illustrator last night and Indesign working on some pretty detailed projects.
It seems to be light to carry, but heavy enough to feel natural when tracking on a desktop. The gestures aren't as hard as everyone here says to execute. You just have to imagine that you have a two-button mouse with 4-way wheel and treat it like one. Works great. Scrolling and sliding are fantastic, and right-click was spot-on.
Just for reference, I'm 6'6, and I have large hands, but I have been trained in proper office ergonomics (the company likes to limit liabilities with classroom training!). This mouse was comfortable after 2-3 hours of working with it last night and this morning.
It's not a super-gaming programmable mouse, its not a 30000 DPI every grain of sand is clickable at 200FPS in Crysis kinda mouse, but for those of us who use our Macs for working or more simple play, it gets the job done with much more finesse than it's predecessor.
My Microsoft Notebook 5000 Bluetooth? DRAWER'D!
Mighty Mouse? DRAWER'D!
My Microsoft Presenter 8000? Still in my bag. Gotta have the laser pointer! ("You got me a mouse with friggin' lasers on its head?") -
One more thing about the RFI - This is the first mouse that hasn't had the bluetooth skipping and dropping that all three of my other mice had with the MacBook Pro.
I'm assuming that the "Apple Mouse Software Update" that came to me when I turned it on and checked software update may have fixed this issue... Maybe? Please?
This $1500 beautiful laptop shouldn't have Bluetooth fits on me like this... Here's hoping those are the past now. -
i tried this mouse last week at the apple store.
all you people saying its comfortable and that youve gotten used to it are just lying to yourselves. -
Bought two of them the other day, and have been using them intensively since. Some thoughts:
Comfort: a matter of taste. I have medium hands and they are great for me.
Tracking: no issues, but as one other poster said the tracking speed is much slower than I'm used to. This leads to:
Utility: Fabulous on a small screen (15" inches or less) awful to unusable (in my opinion) on high resolution 17" or larger screens: you just cannot get enough screen movement per inch of movement of the mouse for large screens and end up having to pick up and reposition the mouse for full side-to-side coverage. (APPLE: this could - and should - be fixed easily in software!).
Multi-touch: excellent, absolutely outstanding, for one-finger scrolling (vertical or horizontal or any angle in between), the ability to "flick" with momentum is just terrific for navigating a Web page, lists, etc. On the other hand as another poster noted the 2 finger scrolling, unless you are employed in the circus as the "Double-jointed Wonder" act, is absolutely useless.
Portability: great, I know of few if any full-size mice that are smaller, thinner, or weigh less.
Batteries: fully replaceable, will work with rechargeables says the manual, have no idea how long they will last however.
Gaming: fergedaboudit!
So, if you have a small screen, like to keep things thin and light, and do a lot of scrolling this might be the very best mouse you ever tried. Big screen or like to play games? You need to look elsewhere. -
In addition to the above poster's (tallan) comment: I've been using this mouse for one-and-a-half days and my battery life is down to 89% (I'm not impressed with this) and I'm using the batteries that came with it (it indicated 100% several hours after I started using it).
If you move the mouse slowly, the distance covered on the screen with the pointer is less. If you move it quickly, it's more. I'm using a 22" external monitor right now and it's pretty darn good. Not quite as good as my MX-Revolution, but I'm sticking with the Magic~Mouse. I have HUGE hands, and am NOT double jointed...... no problems with the 2-finger features. Love it!
Back to the battery observation for a minute, in comparison to my Apple blue-tooth keyboard, (the model with 3 batteries), my first set of batteries lasted from March 6'th 2009 until August 3'rd 2009 (I think that's okay, and I don't turn it off. They were Panasonic Digital Power Batteries). I have been using Energizer "Max" batteries since Aug. 3'rd and as of right this very minute there is 52% remaining. -
Bluetooth mice tend to each through batteries faster than other wireless mice.
I got a 5 button Dell travel mouse for the laptops. -
That seems sort of silly, why not just bring it back. I like my hard earn money in my account, not Apples. I don't buy new stuff to put in a draw, but different strokes for different folks!
I also purchased this magic mouse, but returned it. Not comfortable enough, battery life is terrible. It is like a novelty item and seems cool, but in reality if I kept it, it would indeed end up in a drawer. No way, I got my money back! -
it goes in the drawer as I keep some apple accessories on hand for my network customers ... if they need one I have one on hand then .... if not its another item in " business expense "
-
Ever heard of subjective tastes? Just because you hate it doesn't mean everyone else does.
On the mouse itself, it's alright. It has some nice tricks, but I wouldn't pay $70 for it by itself. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
*sigh*
just purchased a G9 instead. -
I don't understand why people are saying this is more ergonomically correct versus a mouse with a bunch of buttons.
The sheer act of having to arch you wrist to access the multi-touch gestures should be a dead giveaway.
Just like anything Apple makes though. It sure looks cool. -
Some people like sleeping on the ground and only eat vegetables! Whats the point of your post?
-
My post is an argument. The premise is that the less arching your wrist does, the more ergonomic a device is.
Your example is a statement. It's like countering "The Dark side is better than the Light side because it has Darth Vadar" with the statement "Luke went to Hoth."
Ergonomics isn't a matter of preference. They are proven methods, unlike eating only vegetables or sleeping on the ground. -
I tried the Magic Mouse at the Apple Store over the weekend.
Took all but about ten minutes before my hand started to cramp up from the un-natural up-and-down hand flexing and combined arched finger gestures. Not a relaxing ergonomic state at all. I think I'll stick with my conventional mouse and/or touchpad until Apple comes up with orthopedic Version 2. I could care less about cashing in on a future class action.
I think even $69.00 is too much to pay for Apple-Induced hand pain. Fanboys seem to just play right through it and chalk it up to something else. -
ive been checking this mouse out but i dont know how I feel about no feedback when I tap to click. if I understand it correctly the surface of the mouse is like a touchpad.
I think I prefer clicking. My logitech is comfy enough. -
^ It does click...?
-
There is tactile feedback if I remember correctly...
-
ok coming from a logitech(mx620 i think?), i dont really like the magic mouse.
i bought it last week and it feels weird.
I had to max out the sensitivity to get it near the same as to what it was with the logitech(maced out in apple system pref so magic mouse must me less responsive).
while you have both fingers (index and middle) on the mouseif you try to right click it wont work. To right click 1 finger needs to be on the right side of the mouse with no finger touching the left, which is a pain as i dont want to have to lift my left finger every time i want to right click.
The design is great and all, but its in no way designed for the hand, my hands are no giant american hands, but its hard to hold as it feels small, weirdly shaped, sharpish edges and doesnt fit the hand at all.
lack of expose makes it about as usefull as any other mouse so i see nothing special about it. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
*sigh*
i really thought apple could pull out a miracle with the magic mouse, and it looked cool...
...but there seems to be more cons than pros...
they just aren't getting the "form first" concept right with their mice.
the apple mouse should be:
1. simple
2. ergonomically pseudo-perfect
3. work well in its scope
features should be a distant third.
i don't think they are meeting the apple standard here -
Agreed, have to say I like it just slightly better than the corded hockey puck in the OLD imacs. Does look spiffy in the drawer though
-
i find it a fascinating piece of high tech engineering, but ergonomic wise, not so great. I think that Apple needs to make their keyboard and mouse, more for using and not for looking.
-
i got a vx evolution mouse from logitech, it is just darn frustrating to use. It seems have a mind of its own, it would do phantom scroll and clicks...... and it is not a virus, since it occurs in all my laptops and desktops. So i guess it is a hardware problem.
Actually, i find that Microsoft basic v2.0 mouse (those 10 dollars cheapo) is the best mouse by far. It just works and i find that it is useful on all surfaces, sometimes you can use it on surfaces that laser mouse can't even manage.
In fact it is so good, i got 10 of them for backups.... it doesn't have much fancy functions, but it is a good honest down to earth piece of electronic equipment. -
sporting Dell's bluetooth Travel mouse atm.
New apple Magic Mouse.
