Any idea if there will be a new line of iPods coming out soon? Will the price of the iPod classic be dropping any time soon?

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
If you search around online, you'd find this info.
Next week at the Apple music event on 9/9. -
Yeah, nearly for sure new iPods. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the iPod Classic was completely discontinued...their flash storage is getting quite good (at 32 GB by now). Of course, they could keep it around but its days are limited.
-
Oh, thanks for the news. Good thing that I am selling the iPod Touch that was part of my MBP purchase tonight
-
So does that mean none of the new iPods will have a storage capacity greater than 32 gigs?
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
No one yet knows the answer for that, and rumors on that topic are silent. It's technically possible with current NAND chips, but whether Apple will use them....?
Sept 9 @ 1p EDT - that's when we will.
-
No, what I meant was, I think the days of "Hard drive-based iPods" are limited (and yeah, that was probably predicted years ago
), because flash is getting cheaper and cheaper and is more reliable than a hard drive.
The Classic may stick around for one more year, simply because the flash memory hasn't reached 128 GB yet (for its size); but 64 is definitely attainable and I think Apple will be adding that in the next iPod Touch. -
There is completely no proof it is true, but:

yeah 64 gb ipod touch for sure. Probably a redesign on the touch to. Shuffle.... who knows. Nano might stay the same, but doubt it.

This is what you can expect... -
So does anyone know of what else might be rumored to be included in the upgrades? Cause I'd feel that just the addition of a (most likely low quality) digital camera would be nowhere near enough reason to upgrade.
-
maybe for gurus,no...but for those who call every mp3 player an iPod... I am betting on price reuction for nano...
-
Yeah, digital camera, more storage and lower price I think will be about it. The OS/UI is still relatively new on the Nano + Classic, while the Shuffle sells just for its size and price. The Touch does well too on its own. I think the iPod is starting to become a saturated market for Apple and the whole MP3 market...Apple is banking on the iPhone now for success and recognition, not the iPod.

The 'free' ipod with computer purchase deal for students/teachers ends on 9/8/09, followed by the 09/09/09 announcement. My guess is new ipods.
My hope is a new 'tablet' style computer. -
I'd still only consider getting the iPod classic out of all of the available iPods. Will the price be dropping any time soon? Will the 64 gig iPod touch be that cheap any time soon? Will there be any other high capacity iPod at around the $250 price any time soon?

I, for one, was really disappointed with the Apple event. Apple has always been known for their innovation and wowness factor. Didn't feel any of it today. It was more like a "Welcome Back, Steve Jobs" seminar. Yes, Dell and HP have much catching up to do still in terms of innovation and design/features but they are not far behind. Look at the new XPS Adamo. That thing is gorgeous but then again we all want functionality as well and Apple has created many products over and over again except for today's product launches...
-
Well if you are disappointed it is because you allowed yourself to be worked up to expect to much. Apple can't always give everyone what they want all the time. It is hard to always do that! There will be some times when they just keep the playing feel level so to speak with nothing earth shattering. Some of you in my opinion just totally have unrealistic expectations.
-
Having a camera in a new iPod Touch was an unrealistic expectation. I see...
-
Maybe not, but clearly you expected Apple to deliver because everyone has been saying. OH THE IPOD TOUCH is coming with a CAM. For whatever reason and we may never know what, they didn't do it. Maybe it was cost, maybe it was because of how thin the iPod Touch is or the just didn't feel the picture quality was good enough. It is unrealistic to expect that Apple will always deliver based on hype. I don't think anyone realizes how HIGH Apple set the standard and to always, always, always stay at that level is next to impossible, even for Apple!
New iPods?
