Hey guys, i am thinking about getting a macbook and its one of those deals that have a limited time offer...

my choices are either the 2.4ghz macbook or the 2.4ghz macbook pro

other than the screen size and upgraded video card, are there any reasons to pick the MBP over the standard macbook?

i have a 13.3" xps1330 right now so the smaller screen is not a problem. even the regular macbook would provide me with better performance than i have right now.

Looking at your XPS specs, a Mac would offer nothing extra besides OS X and set you back several hundred dollars at the same time... why?

The Macbook is not much more than the XPS M1330. However since your XPS is used you will be spending more.

The Macbook's GPU is about 50% faster than the XPS. So if you need a bit more GPU then it is not a bad idea to upgrade.

reasons i am thinking about upgrading:

    better GPU
i hate vista, with XP my battery life is worse (wouldnt mind giving OS X a try)
i heard the screen on the mac is very nice
backlight keys for night time use

i actually traded my XPSM1210 for this M1330, so i wouldnt really be losing out on a huge cash amount.

one thing i am wondering though is my m1330 has an HDMI out so i can hook it up to my tv when watching movies. can i still do this with the macbook or macbook pro since i do not see any hdmi outputs

Yes, but you'll have to purchase a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to make this work. I'm not sure whether those are available yet or not (Apple has delays on some of the mini-DP adapters)....

If you're worried about the screen, definitely get the Pro. Pretty much every review I've seen says that the MBP's screen far surpasses that of the MB.

Such adapter does not exist, nor any indication that anyone will make one. One has to go via mini-DisplayPort to DVI and then to HDMI via another adapter, and definatly lose the sound on the way. There's no information that the mini-DisplayPort outputs sound anyways.

Purchased a used MBP (latest gen, Penryn, multi-touch, etc.) this afternoon.

Love it. So long clunky, clumsy, ugly Vista!
