Is this 13" super slim mbp really coming out?
Anyone have details or pics?
-
No one really knows. With MWSF only a little less than 2 weeks away, rumors are heating up, and most all of them are saying an ultraportable is on the way. We will know January 15.
-
yay for mac rumors.
Apple us very lucky to be so secretive. It has built itself a reputation so they don't even have to advertise a new product, it's usually sold out the day it's released. -
I hope it really does come out. I can't wait to see what it looks like
-
And also, it doesn't get criticism if at last moment they can't release the product. The most that will happen is "the rumoured product was not announced", not "hot product by Apple to be delayed for six more months"
.

It's about time the MacBook got updated. No offense to those who own them, but the MacBook is WAY too chunky/heavy to be an Apple product. I'd be very surprised if you didn't see a nice new 13.3" LED-lit MacBook.
-
Except for Leopard
-
Really looking forward to Black Macbook Pro
-
I thought this was a 13.3inch mbp. Didnt the macbooks just get updated with a faster cpu? I doubt they will update them this january two months after they put in a new cpu.

Yea the MB was updated in November with the Santa Rosa platform. So I'm guessing probably May with the Penryn update. -
Yeah i dont think the macbooks are going anywhere. If anything this show will be about the new pro and the 15 and 17 inch pros. The new pro seems to be more of a bussiness model imo. According to my dad.
-
Hehe, which is interesting when the current MacBook is still selling like hotcakes...seems Apple doesn't really need to do anything to them and they're still selling like crazy.
I'd like to see a lighter MacBook as well. The current design is nice, but of course can be even nicer, and that's what I'd like to see. -
It really is amazing, isn't it? I mean the MacBooks really are the weakest link for Apple in terms of design. Very plastic-y, compared to every other Apple device which are very sexy and aluminium etc etc. I respect the MacBooks, especially their great keyboards, but they really, really need an update. The last update was just a refresh really, so the next MacBooks should be much sexier. That said, Apple wouldn't want to interfere with their MacBook Pro line, so maybe something much sexier wouldn't happen? The MBs have a pretty good price point, especially in comparison to the hugely expensive Pros. Wow. I just argued with myself. I really am losing it.

Can anyone comment on the durability of the Macbook?
My Vostro is built like a tank, but its the usage issues - audio skipping/grainy screen - that are making it a hindrance to use.
I will be heading up to the Apple store tomorrow to check them out
-
While i am no fan of the macbook and agree it needs an update... i would hardly call it fat / chunky. It is thinner and sleeker than most other notebooks out there.

I have had my Macbook for a year now, and there are still yet to be ANY scratches or bumps. The closest I have to that is where the magnetic latch has that little indent to put your finger, has a few minor scratches that are invisible to the eye where I must have hit it with my nail or something. And I do not mean on the bottom half but on the top half, where it meets that indent.
Other than that, my macbook is still in the same shape as when I first got it, other than a little more greasy.
However, I do baby my macbook a lot. When I bought it on vacation with me, I did have a sleeve (Incase) for it, and I did baby it quite a lot. That being said, I have bumped it a couple of times against things, but it still looks great!
And as for WilliamG's comment about being "plastic-y", I actually prefer it to aluminum. I prefer the black or white "plastic look" to it. I am not too fond of the new aluminum line, which disappoints me slightly, as it seems Apple will be heading toward purely aluminum. That being said, I still think the new iMacs and the MPB looks very sexy.

If Apple does release a new slim laptop, it won't be a PRO machine. The display would be too small for PRO applications, for example.

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
yes but if you think about it, its mostly the "buisness professionals" that need a slim, light notebook. and with the talk of a first party docking station, the screen would become less of an issue. -
FIY Apple used to have 12" version of the old PowerBook (ie their Professional line). This really is a niche that Apple needs to fill. Soon. The freaking MB just does not cut it as a portable enough machine imho. It's too bulky. And battery life isn't that great.
In regards to the sturdiness of the MB, a friend of mine (a huge mac fan boy) had the old equivalent to the MB (remember, pretty much the same case) and dropped it from about 6 feet (wasn't in a bag) and the only problem... a broken hard drive (this was before the G shock protection). -
i'm really wondering about new mbp. i was about to decide to buy a new macbook (or something else
, now there is another issue. Should i wait or not?
-
The only bad thing about the macbook is that fingerprint marks get left on it. Other than that its a good choice for anyone searching for a laptop.
-
Yes, wait for a bit. Macworld will be coming around (i think on the 15th) and there maybe a new model as well as maybe a refresh for MBP.
-
Yeah the new model from the rumors sounds really sweet.
-
Does anyone know the screen size on the new notebook?
-
No one except Apple knows if there's even going to be a new notebook
.
-
i'm also thinking about the price, if there will be a new slim macbook the price will be between macbook and macbook pro i guess maybe near to macbook pro. otherwise how can they sell the macbooks? but if it will meet the expectations with 13" slim design and external graphics then the price will worth also. By the way i dont expect to see it on the markets at least before june. let's wait and see
-
Not really blue. The super portable business notebooks are generally VERY expensive. More than their mainstream units by far.
I'm not sure 100% why, but most of the 12" and 13" 4lb notebooks don't use a normal C2D. They use a ULA version or something... they're half the power.
But bloody heck, I'd be okay with a slimmed down macbook or the current macbook getting 6+ hours of battery life at above half brightness and with a decent load.
I'd say it would be cool if Apple jumped into the SSD market for this, but I find it hard to swallow paying $400 for a 32gb SSD drive. Think of Apples markup on that! -
I read on Bloomberg that the new machine will cost around $1500. But who knows. Apple does. Lets wait for macworld 08 to find out for sure.

ULV or Ultra Low Voltage Processors are found in many ultraportables.

Out of curiosity will the new macbook pros (if the line is updated), will it still support PC2-5400 DDR2 RAM? I'm just asking because I just ordered a set from Fry's, since there's a rebate for this week.

Yes. There is virtually no difference between PC2-5300 and PC2-5400 RAM. Supposedly the PC2-5400 RAM is tested at a higher clock speed (675MHz).
