I just got an mbp 2.4 today. I am really happy with it. This machine is absolutely beautiful. I particularly impressed with the way Ilife application works together.

Anyway, at first I got an mbp with 2 bright red stuck pixel on the screen. The Apple store promptly replaced it with the new one. I opened the replacement at the store and it now has 2 black dead pixels next to each other. The store manager said it's within Apple guidelines but they are going to replace it anyway since I am not satisfied. However, they don't have anymore so I have to wait for new shipment.

I actually can live with the dead pixels because they are on the upper right side, and they are not visible unless the background is a bright color.

If I installed applications and move my data to my current mbp, will I be able to easily move them to the new mbp when the replacement come?

Also, is there a way to set the mbp so it's not going to sleep when I close the lid?

Last question, is it ok to put the sleeping mbp in a bag and carry it around? Do I have to turn it off first. Usually with a PC, I put it on hibernate before I carry it. Is there an equivalent to hibernate on a mac?

    Thanks,

    Dugdug

First of all, congrats on your new MBP :).

Well, you can easily movie music files or movies or documents across Macs, but applications you will have to reinstall onto the new Mac.

There is a program called InsomniaX that disables the Sleep option when the lid is closed. Look into that program.

I don't do that much, so I can't answer the third question.

Congrats! I just picked up my MBP this morning also and I'm using it right now. It looks amazing, but I have to figure out how to use this after switching from Windows.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but I have a few questions of my own:

    1. Is there a way to expand windows to fill the entire screen?

    2. How do you change the time it takes for the screen to go black-ish or go into sleep mode?

Lovin' my mbp so far ;)

    1. The green button (the + icon) will not expand the window to fill the entire screen. Drag the bottom left corner all the way across to make the window fit the whole screen.

    2. I already find this ultra fast compared to Windows' Sleep mode, but anyways, have less programs running and it will take less time to Sleep.

i don't quite know what you mean, but i think the answer he was looking for was:

upper left hand corner apple -->

    system preferences -->

energy settings (or something like that) you can change the amount of time the machine waits idle until it goes into sleep mode.

Oh! I misread that :p. I thought he was asking how long it took the machine to go to Sleep after you shut the lid :D.
