About a month ago I got a macbookpro 13 and installed windows with bootcamp, with out any problems. I just picked up a 17" early 2011 mackbookpro with dual hard drives.
Problem I am having is when I try to install windows on the second drive nothing happens just a black screen. What am I missing ??![]()

Two things I have come up with, don't know how accurate they may be. New to mac OS so I don't know could be
1- can't install windows with a usb dvd drive ??
2- have to remove the first of two drives to install then put the first one back in. ?? -
do you even get to the windows installer? if so do you see both drives show up?
ive installed windows with a usb drive many times.
you shouldnt need to remove any of the drives. you just need to make sure you are selecting the right one.
what happens when you hold the alt key down when you power up your machine? -
hi, i bought a macbook pro last week, on the catalog it says it had i5 dual core processor. Then when i checked the system information its saying i5 core processor, the dual word is not there! my question is, is this the correct i5 dual core processor?

Maybe you should have started your own thread instead of hijacking this one... You don't see "dual-core" in there because that isn't part of the processor name. Intel simply calls their processors a certain name, line number, and that is followed by a model number. Apple doesn't report that model number so you are stuck with just the name and line number. Hence why you are just seeing the speed followed by Intel Core i5. The lacking of "dual-core" doesn't mean anything other than it not being apart of the processor name. You have a dual-core chip and there is absolutely no need to panic.
If you are really panicked and still don't believe me, there is something you can do to confirm you have a dual-core processor. Click on the Apple logo in the upper left, click on About This Mac, and then click on System Report. The first thing you should see is a system report detailing your computer and CPU. It will tell you the model name, model identifier, and then go into the CPU information showing the total number of processors (1) and the total number of cores (2). -
When I hold alt, it shows both drives and the install disk -

The problem is with the way you put windows onto that USB disc. Windows is extremely picky about booting from USB on mac hardware. The problem is related to EFI. You have to follow very precise instructions to get a bootable windows installer on USB. I would recommend finding a blank DVD and burning a windows ISO onto the DVD, and booting from that instead. It will just work.
Oh wait lol. No optical drive. Right.
In that case, you are looking for instructions on how to create a bootable windows USB drive for a mac (google).
The solution will involve a windows command line and refit. To get temporary access to a windows command line, you can install a trial of vmware fusion if you need to, or if you have a PC laying around.
