Hi everybody. I've had my MBP for a couple weeks now and am enjoying it thoroughly. I ordered a Speck See-Thru Hard Case - GREEN a little while ago for it which should come in the mail soon, but my MBP is also getting quite hot when doing anything like playing some older games and watching DVD's. My question is, would having the Speck case attatched make the notebook cooler useless as the fans wouldnt be blowing directly on the laptop? Has anyone tried this? Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give me.

I don't much care for those hard cases, as they completely destroy the heat sinking ability of the aluminum case on the MBP. The hard case will pretty much render your cooler useless(unless you have some crazy MBP cooler that has fans blowing down over the keyboard- somebody should make that).

If you're looking to cool your notebook down, try smcFan control. It's a great little utility that lets you control the minimum fan speed. I have mine set to 3600 rpm, and you still can't hear them, and it's quite cool.

Correct. I monitored the temperature while using that case and never really noticed a difference. The main vent is not blocked and I believe the Speck has slots in the bottom to allow some heat to escape off of the aluminum.

no problems here, rendering video brings my cpu to 125 farenheit, that's about it. (I do have the previous C2D MBP) room temp around 75+. I would agree that an additional cooler would be rather useless though if you have a speck case. Removing it is a simple task for hard disk intense operations. They're mighty eye catching so keep it around, especially for the outings to your local coffee shop.

i can second that the case doesnt impede cooling for the MBP. My idle is still around 48C and load is around 60-65C with SMC. Also its probably saved me from a couple of bad scratches already.
