They ALL buzz. Gah! How many times do I have to say it!? :D

If you don't hear it, it's because you have a desktop running next to you, or some other ambient sound. When my central air kicks in, I can't hear it at all, but in a quiet room with a laptop, you can hear it.

Again, ALL cinema displays, either 23" or 30" (can't speak for 20s) make this sound. I've put my ear to probably 15 in total, and they all make the sound. Whether YOU hear it depends on ambient-noise factors.

Drives me nuts, despite loving the display. I just leave a fan running in my office room when I need to turn the brightness down, because otherwise I might shoot myself. It's a shame that companies get away with this because they assume everyone will have loud desktop computers running next to their displays.

I dont know.. I'm in my room upstairs and absolutely no sound (dead quiet) I can hear myself breathe quiet and I have my mac pro about 2 feet away from me on the bottom of a desk and I dont hear much from the mac pro except if I concentrate hard enough I can hear the gentle front fan whispering and the monitor is on top right infront of me 1 feet away and I use my brightness 2 notches from 0 and I dont hear a buzz noise whatsoever even putting my ears right on the monitor.

I swear to God I dont hear a peep out of this monitor and I'm very sensitive with noise, I returned a mba 3 times before just getting a refund because of its fan was too loud for me and exchanged a powerbook 12" years ago 4 times just because of the fan as well and ended up refunding it and mbp core duo model 3 times to apple when the inverter or cpu whine drove me nuts and ended up selling on ebay.

One funny thing to mention is that the only thing I hear in my room is my own breathing at times + the scientific atlanta 8300HD's hddvr spinning and buzzing.

It's a particular frequency that not everyone is susceptible to. If you put your ear to the top of your display, with brightness down, you should be able to hear it. But then again, if your Mac Pro doesn't make a sound to your ears, I have no idea what disease you have. :p I'm around Mac Pros a lot of the time, and I can hear them plain as day, though they are VERY quiet machines. That said, I notice you have a Raptor in your Mac Pro. That thing is easily audible.

But that's why I say, sound is VERY subjective.

I mean when I'm close to the mac pro I do hear its fan and hd working but 2 feet away buried under a desk its hardly noticable. I put my ear next to the top part I do hear a slight electric noise but only can hear it if I put my ear touching the monitor itself otherwise the noise is not even there... is this what your referring to?!?

Lol, I was going to say the same as I dont know what kind of phobia/schizo/disease you have that make you annoyed by this noise that can only be heard if you put your ear touching the monitor on the top part.

Slight to you, almost unbearable to me. Funny how that works. I can hear it from 10 feet away in a quiet room. It's, as I say, just a particular frequency that makes me suicidal. :) If you have a Mac Pro near your display, you really won't hear it at all. But yes, that's the noise.

Could it be possible that some monitors exhibit a much louder electric noise than others? I'm serious I'm very very sensitive to noise as well and in a dead silent room I still dont hear it unless my ear is literally 1 mm away from the top part of the ACD.

Definitely possible. I've been through several screens (different brands), and some were louder than others (A Planar and an LG being quite loud, and a Dell 2408WFP being much quieter, though still audible) The Apple is the quietest I've heard, BUT having had a few in my house, they all make the same sound. No difference that I heard. The ones in the lab at the university also make exactly the same sound, 23s and 30s alike.

I remember the 30" ACD that I bought had one problem that the right side of the display was a tad bit brighter than the left. That drove me crazy so I exchanged for another one with no restock fee and it was fine no dead/stuck pixels and even backlighting but then it was way too big for me so I returned it and complained about the same thing and the genius told me he didnt see it as to the first one I returned and what I was seeing but since he told me that I saw it he gave me a full refund with no restock fee =D Sometimes lieing does wonders!

I think apple's restock fee is ridiculous in the first place, why not counter the ridiculous with another ridiculous and not loose $150. You know how many tacos I can buy with $150!!

Ehh its just a little white lie, its not going to make steve jobs starve death or kill/hurt anyone~

Perhaps, but you agree to that when you buy something from Apple...

Honestly though, I did LOVE that 30" ACD but I just had a huge buyers remorse since it cost the same as a new macbook pro! So my conscious overtook me and made me return it...+ the 30" was too big(not that big of a deal) but it runs pretty warm-hot and if your in a small area space that heat will be felt.

Lol I feel like were ichatting through a forum haha.

You probably all no this of course but the ability of hearing higher frequencies will become more less every day from adult hood on. So maybe WilliamG is just a bit younger than jjahshik32?
Besides the fact that this will occur (for everybody) in a different pas.

FWIW, I have noticed the same appliances (other monitors, TVs, etc) make more noise when the power is poorly conditioned. I had a bad short in my home's power circuit. It was just connected enough that it only became a problem when the temperature changed a lot in a single day. Anyways, on days that there was a problem, I knew it was coming because the monitors, TVs, etc made more noise than normal. It finally fried itself (the circuit) without damaging anything (psew), and I haven't heard that phenomenon since I had it replaced.

Good thing, mpullen. Frying electrics is never fun.

I don't have any buyer's remorse with my ACD. But I do wish it would shut the hell up at less than full brightness. :)

William, regarding my post. The circuit fried. It was between the main and my breaker. Nothing inside my house had any negative side effects. But it was when the power between the main and the breaker was "surging" arc'ing, whatever because of the bad circuit outside, that the noise increased in my appliances inside the house.

Very good suggestion. My brother has to filter his power when he uses his recording equipment because you get a slight buzz. He can filter it out, but it is far more convenient to not have to do that.

WilliamG, get a nice APC unit that conditions power (Possibly even a battery backup as well), and give that a whirl. If anything, you'll be happy if a power transformer blows behind your place and the cheap surge protector is too cheap.

I do have an APC. Nice idea, though, if I didn't. :D
