Reading Apple forums, I found some people that had problems with the 10.4.7 update (even though they seem to be most PPC users). Since my Macbook is working fine with 10.4.6, and I have a philosophy of "if ain't broke, don't fix it", I am postponing the update. Also I didn't quite enjoy the Dashboard phones home "feature", I don't like my computer doing things I am not aware of.

I am curious if any people here had any trouble/things that stopped working with the 10.4.7 update, and also if it fixed or improved some known problem (Macbook gets cooler perhaps?). So far the only serious glitch I found was the inability to connect to a Windows Workgroup at work.

I updated the first day it came out, which was like what the end of June or first week in July? I've had no problems with anything since than.

Everything works fine, including connected to a windows network, I've tested this on two different networks, my own and my friends at his place.

Zero issues here. I also think the phone home widget has been turned off.

Can someone tell me what this phone home widget thing is?

More specifically like what it does and whats the name of it, and how I 'turn' this off if its something that gets turned on?

Well basically Apple had a widget, don't remember which one, it may have been few, that phoned home to check for an update to itself. It never sent any information other than its version so it could check for updates. It was a little bit overblown because it came out the same time Windows Genuine Advantage had revealed its phone home habits. It is still annoying, but it does not seem too big a deal.

Here is a text about the Dashboard-phone-home "feature" and how to disable it (from: http://www.dashboardwidgets.com/ ):

    Code:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dashboard.advisory.fetch.plist
