Seems that this update made Firefox trigger discrete graphics anytime a flash video or image is on the webpage... the only way to make Firefox revert back to the IGP is to close and reopen it or set it to the IGP in gfxCardStatus.
One step forward, two steps back... I wish Apple would just let people have a whitelist to set preferences, or undo whatever they did to screw Firefox users. -
Well at least they fixed the delay between print jobs (and really it wasn't a delay, it was a print, power cycle the printer or unplug/replug it, then print, repeat).
now if they can fix all the other issues with Samsung, HP, and Epson printers. All will be well -
loaded it on my MBA 13" and don't notice any issues yet.

No issues here.......

After I installed this and rebooted, my Macbook was sluggish for about 5 minutes. After that its a fine. Probably just indexing or something.
-
I guess there's some issues with N wifi signals.

I'm using 802.11n on 5ghz and WPA2 on an Apple Airport base station right now... running 10.6.5 with no problems.

I get CPU spikes in Firefox 4 beta 7 as well. something I didn't get in Firefox before, so I'm not sure if its the update or the Beta. either way, it's frustrating to have to micromanage my fans to compensate for flash. I had the same problem with Chrome, which is why I stopped using it.
Safari seems unaffected.
on a happier note, the update did fix my long-standing selection problem. sometimes OSX would stop responding to me entering text or selecting areas. I'd have to double click the top bar of whatever window I'm using to get it to go back to normal. I've been dealing with that for months and was on the verge of formatting & reloading.
everything is perfect. I'm now just hoping for Firefox 4 + flash to get along better. maybe the issue is the flash plug-in. I don't know. but this CPU spiking is frustrating. -
hopefully apple does something about the cpu spike. Do you know if this is affecting google chrome?
-
it was affecting Chrome with regards to flash BEFORE the update. so I assume it's affecting it now as well.

I figured out a partial fix for Firefox 4 Beta 7 triggering discrete graphics just by being launched. It turns out that by default FF 4 Beta 7 enables hardware acceleration for everything.
Follow these steps to disable having hardware acceleration enabled on everything instead of only enabling it when needed:
(1) In the address bar type: about:config, click the "I'll be careful button" to proceed.
(2) In the Filter bar, type layers.accelerate-all
(3) Double click layers.accelerate-all that comes up so that the value changes from "True" to "False".
(4) Close all tabs and restart Firefox. Enjoy not triggering discrete graphics just by launching Firefox.
Note: This doesn't fix the youtube/flash issue where if you go to a page that has flash content, it'll automatically trigger the discrete graphics, even if you're not in full-screen mode. The only way that I know of how to fix that is by using gfxcardstatus or restarting Firefox. -
I got sick of flash player and uninstalled it. my mbp is much cooler now xD. HTML5 FTW. Download youtube5. watch youtube videos without flash. Perfect for MBA

gaming performance has improved tremdendously with the new update. omg the difference is night and day. not just the the framerate but the unusual hiccups and pauses are gone. stability is rock solid now as well.
-
what games were you having problems with that you don't know?
-
-
sweet. I'll give TF2 a run.
-
Does anybody know how to show the framerate in HL2? -
There are two ways:
(1) Type cl_showfps 1 in console
(2) Type net_graph # (replace # with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5)
The second option shows a lot more than just fps, listing data going in/out, choke, etc.
OS X 10.6.5 is out...
