I just saw this article and it has some great tips:
TidBITS Macs & Mac OS X: Our Favorite Hidden Features in Mac OS X Lion
The highlight for me was this one as I was weary of turning 'Resume' off and losing it completely. Turns out I can opt in whenever I want!:
I also saw a few tweaks on Reddit (I dislike both of these animations):
-
I wish there was a way to disable "Versions" and get back the conventional "Save As" to TextEdit.
-
What's bothering about Versions specifically?
-
Is there a way to turn the file Lock off.. I hate every time I open a file in TextEdit and try to hit save it says its Locked and I have to press unlock... grrrr..
-
its in the time machine preferences, odd spot, but you can turn off auto locking there.
-
mine was set to lock 2 weeks after last edit.. yet everything is always locked every time I open it even if the last edit was 1 minute ago... must be buggy.
-
I'd be afraid that, if I were to email it to someone, they could see the revisions I've done. Whether that be a word document or picture.
-
Versions transforms TextEdit from a text editor into a word processor. I already have a word processor.
If I create or edit a text file that has precisely X amount of characters and bytes, I don't want it polluted with extraneous data that a simple text editor or batch file compiler will choke on. Must I now install a new text editor? -
I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think that it's implemented like that. Revisions are not kept inside the document or file itself like in Word, but rather managed on a file system level. I couldn't find anything technical in a quick search, but Apple pretty much agrees:
-
As more information is revealed, I tend to dislike the feature even more. Looks like a superfluous redundancy of Time Machine for idiots who don't back-up. Except the information now resides on the boot disk, taking up room that I would like to have the option of retaining. As well, I am a fan of KISS, and it appears that Versions creates a massive bureaucracy of new files both creating multiple file pollution libraries and overhead.
As I perform Time Machine backups on an hourly basis via a wireless NAS, this "feature" is wholly inapplicable to me. I suppose there are a reasonable amount of likewise individuals who would prefer to turn off the "feature". After all, I can turn off Time Machine, when I so choose, right?
I certainly hope that some application like Onyx will afford the opportunity to delete the Version databases and the extraneous files they reference. Sounds like we'll have another maintenance chore that must be done manually. -
Before you call just about everyone an idiot keep in mind that much of the world doesn't do backups. It's not that they are idiots but rather they are not "geeks". Just the same as the people here that say they've been on Windows for more than 10 years and have never experienced a single virus. That's generally not the experience of the average person, that's the experience of a geek. We're all geeks here, (which I consider a good thing) but calling everyone else idiots is a bit harsh.
Adding to the Lion Tips and Tricks, I would like to add a tip about Full Screen in Safari. You can adjust the browsing area (provided that the browsing area fills the screen like NBR) so you can still have the browser in Full Screen but resize only the viewing area.
Move the mouse cursor all the way to the left or the right side of the screen, the cursor becomes the resizing cursor. 3 finger drag will bring either sides of the screen inward. I find this pretty useful depending on the website. Also if you use tabs you can resize just the one tab and it won't affect the others.
-
You could have been more harsh to me, and you weren't. Thank you.
I apologize to those who don't backup. I should have left that one one word out, and I still would have made my point.
-
Not sure if this goes here but it's an article i found on how to hopefully solve battery drain if you face it after upgrading to lion.
-
Double-tapping somewhere in Safari zooms in intelligently like in iOS. Is this new to Lion or has Safari always done this?
-
I think its new. With OS X 10.6.8 I pinch to zoom.
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
New in Safari 5.1, works only under Lion. -
Guys, I think we have the solution for the Lion battery problem. The problem must have had been with the Apple auto graphics switching malfunctioning.
-
I don't think thats it. ALot of people who have been posting battery problems have been using gfxCardStatus and they have been on integrated.
-
What happens if you have your trackpad set up so that single taps register as clicks?
I never depress my touchpad as I have it set up for tap-to-click. Will I still be able to utilize the double tap to zoom gesture? -
I strongly suspect that many of the battery problems in Lion might be solved with an SMC reset and battery calibration. Thats what worked for me, but I can't prove that solution systemically.
-
double tap with 2 fingers works fine to zoom in Safari. -
I ll hope on to ask a fast question:
So is it "safe" to switch to lion already?
Will i notice any improvements in speed and stability over SL (or it shouldnt be worse at least). I dont care much about shinies just dont want to ruin stability and i know that new products may need few patches before they are good. -
You should start a new thread. This thread is about Lion tips and tricks and TBH we should keep it going in that direction. Bringing in Lion issues and such will totally derail the discussion.

If you are paying for it then I don't think so
