Sometimes when I try to turn on my Macbook, it won't turn on, then I wait 5 minutes and try again and it will, and once I booted up it ask me if I should report an error, it always says os x restarted unexpectly. Anyone know the problem?

Is this happening often?
I would recommend doing a permissions repair, at automator world there is a script called Maintenaince 3.5, now I had a very similar problem and at first I thought it was gonna fall into that catagory of "logic board replacement" but after running that script one time (it repairs/checks permissions as well as tons of other things) my Macbook has been running smoothly.
If it doesn't fix it, try taking out the battery and running it on AC without the battery in and see if the problem is replicated. If it continues, looks like you're gonna need to call AppleCare. -
It just happened again, where can I get that program. I don't want to have to replace it >.<
-
I have heard issues with the MacBooks randomly restarting. Since you just got yours Arman I would look to exchange it, or at least get into the Genius Bar if you live near an Apple Store or talk to AppleCare.
-
Heh, well I know AppleCare is EXTREMELY busy right now with the battery recall, I have been reading quite a bit about it today on macrumors.
I had random shutdowns a few weeks ago, but after running that script I posted above, I never had it happen again. Its just a good idea to try it before going and calling AppleCare. -
I will run the program and hope it fixes it. Now, everytime I try to boot it up, this problem always happens!!! I hope it fixes it, Thanks for the link.
-
When it finishes look through the log it gives and see if it says anything about "correcting" something and if it does, than that might have been the problem, however the log doesn't report what the other maintanence stuff does.

Ok, I downloaded it and I am running the test right now. The warranty covers unlimited apple hardware incicidents right? For my 1 year?
-
Yes for the computers, the iPod is the only one that has a warranty restriction and thats 1 phone call.
-
Ok, I did the test and everything seems ok, I hope this works. If it doens't what should I do, go to the Apple Store where I bought my Macbook or Call a phone number?
-
Both should be fine, I know AppleCares phone lines are extra busy lately because of the battery recall situation going on.
Hopefully this script fixes it, because I had the same problem and it fixed mine. -
I hope things fare well for you, ARMAN, but I am curious as to what applications did you install and what hardware do you have connected to your new MB?
Best of luck with resolving your issue. -
Arman still never said anything about if this fixed it or not.
But I did see him posting today. I'm assuming it went well? -
Well Arman, how'd it go
-
Computers have 1 year warranty, 90 days phone support - both unlimited.
iPods have 1 year warranty, 90 days phone support also - but only one phone support call (because of the volumes of iPods sold I would imagine). The warranty doesn't care about that though, the warranty is valid even if you don't have phone support. It just means you might have to pay for Applecare to troubleshoot the issue (since if it's software, it wouldn't be covered under warranty). Thus the value of the Applecare Protection Plan, since that covers both software (phone support) and hardware (warranty)Expensive for notebooks, but worth it.
But anyway, didn't mean to sound like an Apple ad there. Just thought I'd set the information straight, hope this helps. -
You're working for Apple undercover aren't you star? just kidding.
Thats pretty much what I meant, was that the 1 phone call is a warrranty restriction for the iPod, and I probably should have mentioned theres also more to the warranty such as hardware support.
Anyways, I'm still waiting for Arman to tell whats up. -
OH Sorry, It seems to be working, I haven't had the problem yet. Thanks a lot xbandaidx!!! It is fine now
-
Thats good.
Anyways, for some reason it happened to me today again, please take note I've been doing a lot of monkeying around with installations and as well as removals, I did the repair and stuff and its working fine again. I think if it happens again it might be my battery because for some strange reason when I plugged it in it worked fine, Ill have to check it out.
Anyways while I was at the store today when they called me in for my Bluetooth Mighty mouse, I asked them about it (shutdowns) and they said doing what i suggested is the first course of action and usually fixes the issues, however if it continues then they suggest trying to see if the power source is affecting it (w/ or w/o battery), and if that doesn't work try resetting pram and pmu and if that dont work (lol) you put in your OS X install dvds and apparently one of the options is that the computer saves an archive of your settings and files and stores it somewhere for after the reinstallation and imports it all back in (JEEZ if only windows could do that!) and try that, if not its time to call AppleCare. -
It just happened to me again, should I do that program again?
-
Ops ! !! !!!
Armanslr, would you please let us know what do you have installed on your machine - just to get a picture of what you are running. Thanks.
xbandaidx, I have not ask you to give us a breakdown of what you're running on your MB since it seems that you do a lot of tweaking and testing which would not give me a "real" indication to what "I" may be doing. -
ummm I do nothing but, Limewire, Itunes , Safari , and thats pretty much it lol. I hope that if this is a problem, I can just report it after like a week that the Macbooks have had their new proscessors and hope that I may need a new one LOL!! I hope the Macbook gets Merom!

If it is reoccurring I would give AppleCare a call if you have not yet. I have heard a lot of people complaining about this. Macfixit said that deleting the following files may help:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
They say that they may need to be deleted often as they can be easily corrupted. The also say that most are hardware issues and will require a fix or replacement if you are under your 14 days. -
if mine has no problem should i just run maintenance to keep my comp running smoothly if so what task should i do? should i do all so it checks everything?? sorry to hear that arman.....
-
Normally I do them all, but they aren't all required. Usually just repairing permissions only will fix problems.
Only annoying thing about doing all of them is that it resets your icons, its not a big deal to set them back as its usually only a few that get reset such as your account icon, which you can set it back if you saved your photo in photobooth in just a few seconds. -
thanks for the response xbandaidx...u and this forum has been great help!
-
It's been 14 days today, what should I do?
-
What do you mean what should you do?
I thought you said its fixed now. -
It is but it happens sometimes still, and after I run the program it seems to stop it then it comes back, twice so far.
