Ok, I was deciding earlier if I should post this in the Acer section, or Mac OS X section, but I think it's more suited here because this is where the OSX pros are. Anyway, I was wondering if the Acer Aspire AS3050-1150 NoteBook ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115369) supports OSX?

Also, where do I buy this version of OSX/whats it called? Because I was under the impression there's some new version for intel users now?

Can someone please lead me in the right direction? =/

No...you cannot legally do that. Apple's EULA specifically states that you are only allowed to run OSX on Apple hardware.

It doesn't use BIOS, only EFI...which Acer does not use, so good luck trying to hack it to work. The x86 version of OSX is so that Macs with Intel processors can work with OSX, not so that PCs can use it.

Its not really as cut and dry as night makes it sound. It is technically possible [and the use of EFI is irrelevant, frankly]. That said, running OSX on non Apple hardware is still more a of a hack than anything else.

Oh ok, thank you for clarifying that. I was researching about a program called PearPC or something along those lines that allows you to run OS X in a Windows environment. Is that illegal?

    Its no different really.

And I'd consider it more of a legal gray area than anything else. Its not like you will actually get in trouble. ;)

I'd just get a Mac laptop. Better build quality than Acer's anyway. Now I have my Macbook, I barely touch my Acer. And when I do, it feels very cheaply made.

I strongly recommend not getting Acers. I have had nothing but bad experience with them. That aside, if you do decide to go with the illegal hack, the performance would be abysmal, due to lack of compatible drivers. All your drivers will also be hacked, leading to constant kernel panics and other issues.

It is against Apple's EULA, and it is illegal because there is no way to legally obtain a copy of OS X that will run on Intel besides buying a Mac. The current shrinkwrapped version is PPC only.
