My uni sells office 2004 for mac at a very reasonable price, $120. Apple's offering customers who buy the 2004 today a de facto free upgrade to office 2008 once it comes out.

I tried to find out if that upgrade is applicable to purchases made through the university, but I couldn't find out. HALP?

Yes, it's a mail-in offer from MS if I remember right.

If you buy your copy of Office today, you should be able to get a $100 mail-in rebate, too, as that is from MS as well. MacMall is also offering Office 2004 for $124.99 + $100 MIR.
