THe technology is out now...I hope it develops fast cause its awesome....

Flash drive instead of hard drive.

You can laready get this on some computers although its expensive and seems to be max 64 gigs but the benefits are awsome:

    1. No moving parts (less breakdown)
    2. Fassssst! No more 7200 rpm...just fast access.
    3. Quiet (see #1)
    4. less heat (see # 1)
    5. Instant on all the time (no spool up etc)

I would think Mr Jobs would be all over this one....I hope soon.

It's still a new technology, and the capacities for SSD (flash drives) aren't that high yet. The price, however, is stratospheric.

i wouldn't like to see it in a MBP because it'd cost $6000 for a MBP with like 80 GBs of space.

I'd like to see a hybrid drive option in the MBP.

That means a 16/32GB SSD drive for boot/load/chace/whatnot, and a regular hard drive for storage.

Hybrid drives are slow though - all 5400rpm. Besides, OSX can't even take advantage of them fully right?

I'm not seeing a SSD drive in the MBP really - it's just not enough space. Unlike the MBA, there's a real need for drive space in the MBP for many situations.

Still, if they had it as an option, I guess it'd make some people happy - not that Apple was ever a huge fan of "options" :p

Is the heat that much less? RAM chips heat up pretty good. These drives are nothing but dense static RAM chips right?

It's less heat. Don't think RAM, think really large flash drive.

No no, this is just like the storage in your digital camera. Not like RAM at all. Its flash memory.

Something I would like to point out is that these solid state hard drives have real, live SATA connecty bits. You could plug one into your MBP today if you went out and bought the drive (for an arm, leg, and two fingers).

Well, those flashcards can be pretty hot though.
Even when you are moving a lot of files in a period of 10 mins, your USB stick will be pretty hot.
And in the MBA it will al be placed in a place with little space, so i wonder how the MBA will work.
I'm curious about the reviews :)

Yup... some of the posters on the hardware/accesories state their SSD drives get hotter than their HDDs.

Until the 128 gig drives become cheaper than a fully loaded MBP, I don't see them being included :p Give it 1-2 years and they'll probably be an upgrade option.
