Here's my predicament: I have a Gmail account. I also have an iMac. This week I just bought myself a brand new MacBook Pro.
Now to the question. If I get a new mail in my Gmail inbox, that will show up in both my Mail apps. If I send a mail, that will show up un both my Mail apps. But how do I use Mail (the app) so that if I get a mail in my inbox and read it while I'm on my MBP and then delete it, when I get home and power up the iMac that mail will not show up in Mail? In other words, can I sync the two macs regarding G-mail?
(I hope the question isn't too stupid) Thanks.

GMail now offers IMAP as well as POP3, so using IMAP, deleting that email will delete it from the actual account as well and not just the inbox of your computer. So do that

Hmm... if I check my Gmail account via my web browser, I can see all the mails, even those that I deleted in my Mail app... (I tried this: right-click on the Inbox folder from Mail, choose "Erase Deleted Messages and then I re-checked my Gmail account via the web browser: no change, all the e-mails were still there...)

There might be an option mail that lets you delete messages off of the actual server.
Also, try deleting the message from your trash folder, that might do it. Not sure of the specifics of how gmail's webmail works, but if you were using imap it would make sense that it would delete it from the webmail.
But is the problem gone now between the two macs? imap should solve all of that. -
No... I can't see ANY mails in my Mail app inbox. I'll try reconfiguring Mail (manually this time)...

make sure to properly set up the account as an IMAP account.

I honestly don't recommend using Gmail with the Mail app at all, however, gmail online app is a much better system in my opinion.
just create a SSB (site specific browser) with an app like Fluid (fluidapp.com), and I promise you will be happier with it.
with Google Gears for mac you can still maintain the email offline as well. (apparently) -
Be sure to follow gmail's instructions for setting up gmail with Apple mail. (Follow the link for Apple mail 3.0 Leopard)

Set your pop server to leave it on the server for set numbers of day. This is a option with thunderbird. This way you have time to download it the other pc. I do this will 3 pc's.

Sorry for the late reply; the account was set up on POP instead of IMAP. Works like a charm now. Thanks, everyone!
