    Hello Mac Users!

My wife is a long-time Mac user and Ph.D. candidate. She's also jealous of MS OneNote (which I have used for law school), and is currently looking into whether there's an equivalently useful Mac program out there. I've done some quick Google searches and came up with a couple of ideas, but I thought I'd see if you all have some sage advice.

Before you ask -- Yes, I *did* do a forum search and noted that people recommended both Circus Ponies Notebook and OmniOutliner, among others. However, those threads (the ones I found, anyway) are several years old now, and I am curious whether anything has changed in terms of viable options.

    Thanks for any feedback!

I'm a huge OneNote fan, recently switched to Mac and I've been trying a (free!) app called GrowlNotes which looks good so far.

That's helpful, especially coming from a prior OneNote user. We'll take a look!

..and do you have a link? A quick Google search doesn't turn up anything.

Would help if the name of the software were spelled correctly. Growly Notes is what it's called.

OP, you can also give Evernote a try. I use it daily. I've played with One Note and haven't really seen much more I would need it for that Evernote can't do. Evernote is also free (with ads, ) but it syncs to the cloud and your iOS devices and you can view your notes online immediately after a sync. I absolutely love the UI. It's better than just "good enough". Remember Everything | Evernote Corporation

This is a maybe: Scrivener. Writing (and research) habits are highly personal. If one tends towards producing a lot of small bits of paper, trying to make sense and books out of it, this may be worth looking at. Don't be put off by the cheezy url. :)

Good suggestions -- she mentioned Evernote this morning as well, so we'll certainly give that a look.

    Thanks to all!

I've been looking for something like One Note as well and this Growly Notes looks interesting.

Also, just to point out that while neither omnioutliner plus nor circus ponies notebook has had revolutionary updates in several years, they're still both quite good.

Also if compatibility across devices is important, evernote is probably your best bet for now as it syncs with everything. Cp notebook has an iOS version, as does onenote.

I've been very happy with Notational Velocity set to Drop box folder.

I've been using Growly Notes for a few days and do like it. I have had one crash but did not lose any data. I put confidential information in my notebooks and I'd guess that putting it in the cloud would be a very bad idea.

So far I like what I see - the only downside is that I am dependent on my MacBook Pro for all of my stuff. Fortunately I have a backup MBP.
