Hi folks,
When I had the Rev A MBP with Sigmatel audio, optical audio worked fine. But I can't find any way to turn it on in the Santa Rosa MBP with Realtek - does it work? and if so, where's the setting? My little red light just won't shine in the headphone port![]()
Cheers!

I've been wondering about this as well.
-
Has no one found a way?
-
I discovered two things:
- I installed the latest drivers from Realtek*; and
- unlike the buggy old days of Bootcamp Sigmatel drivers, the optical plug only powers on (ie. lights up) when you plug the optical cable into it.
Hope these helps others,

You need a TOSLINK

You can buy it here.
ETA that's for a macbook. I'm not sure what port you have on a macbook pro. -
my sr macbook pro doesn't have the red light. it's plugged in right now to my logitech z5500's via a mini optical to toslink cable.
Optical audio! How to get it working on MBP SR with Realtek audio?
