My wife needs a new laptop, and I really want her to get a Mac, since (1) I know she'll love OSX if she gives it a chance and (2) it'll be much easier for me to support than windows, which I almost never use anymore. However, the major sticking point is that she's currently "wedded" to Outlook 2007 in that she uses it to sync (a lot) of data with her phone, a Motorola Q. I did some checking online and it looks like the Q will sync with many OSX programs, but it also looks a bit kludgier than Windows. Do any of you have experience with this? Finally, my main question is that it occurs to me that all could be well if I install Windows on a Mac and then run Outlook 2007 via parallels. That way everyone wins, I think. Do any of you have experience with this? Any reason to think it won't work? Thanks.

Yes, running Outlook 2007 via Parallels is perfectly fine. There shouldn't be any issues.

Yee but, won't Entourage work as well?
It's in the Office for Mac suite. -

Thanks for the reassurance, Sam... perhaps a Mac is the answer.
As to Entourage... I tried it when I switched over and wasn't impressed. It felt very "Outlook Express" to me. Maybe I didn't give it a fair shake, I dunno. But my wife is an Outlook "power user" so I wouldn't want to stick her with a lesser program (or a program that she would find to be lesser, at any rate). -
Is Thunderbird available for Mac?

Yeah, T'Bird is available for OSX, but I think Mail.app is better if you just want a mail program.
