How about photoshop express depending on what your doing it might suit your needs

I was in the same boat when I first got my Macbook Pro.
I bought Pixelmator: http://www.pixelmator.com/
I really can't recommend it enough. Fantastic program! Seriously! -
I use paintbrush - its the only mac program that I have found to be very much equivalent to MS Paint. I believe its freeware as well.
-
He's not looking for an equivalent to MS Paint, he's looking for an equivalent to the freeware windows program Paint.NET
Paint.NET is like a halfway point between ms paint and adobe photoshop.
Pixelmator is the only mac equivalent without actually buying adobe photoshop. It's not free, but it's not expensive either. -
Ah I see - thanks for the clarification. I just quickly read his posted and assumed he meant MS paint. As they say, when you "ASSUME", you make an "A$$" out of "U and ME".
-
picassa maybe?
-
+1 for Pixelmator, as it's great! It's just like Photoshop, and has most of the same features.
You can also import Photoshop brushes, which is a nice feature also.
-
Gimp confusing? dunno I've always thought it was pretty easy and powerful... i use it for everything I do
-
GIMP is great, but for me, it was a bit confusing using all of the features AT FIRST.
It takes some time getting used to, just as most new applications.
Just a bit of time will do the trick.

"seashore" i had the same dilemma as you and this is a great solution.

As a last resort, run paint.net under windows xp in a virtual machine in unity mode.

one of the best things for making GIMP easier to use is going into X11 preferences and enabling focus in X11 to follow the mouse... by default you have to click a window then click what you want in it. go back to another and click it then click what you want.. etc.... if you change the option it is much easier getting rid of that extra click, as focused window switches by itself.
-
Thanks doh! That really helps make it easier to grasp the application better, and a few clicks helped do what I needed to do faster than about 20 clicks and undo's.
-
i'll just use Gimp...
-
Try Pixelmator as a trial? I promise you won't go back to GIMP after that
-
How about GIMP?
PS: Didn't notice that you already tried GIMP...
Have you tried the latest one? It gets some taking use to... but Paint.NET is definitely AMAZING
-
Paint.NET is awesome
