I just ordered a new Macbook 2GHz 2GB Ram from macmall.com with Parallels and Windows XP Preinstalled. My question is can I run both Bootcamp and Parallels? I don't mean as in the same time but just shutting down Parallels and rebooting with bootcamp. Also, Will the Macbook register that windows XP is installed?(bootcamp wise) Any ways thanks for your replies, this is my first Intel Mac and I have high hopes for it. *Crosses fingers*

I'm about to shift through the giant sticky at the top about Bootcamp and Parallels so please don't flame me if this is in the sticky. :)

Hi there, I pass on Vista (by the way, interesting username :p)!

Anyways, yes, you can have both Parallels and Boot Camp, in fact, this is easier as you can just direct Parallels to use the Windows partition made in Boot Camp.

Ok, I have a followup on this question. I'm posting this from my new Macbook and i need some assistance. I have Parallels up and running fine but when i reboot and press alt/option my mac isn't reconizing a XP partition for boot camp. Should I just simply use the boot camp assistant and partition my HD as if parallels wasn't there? Anyways besides that my Mac is up and running great.(alot faster then my ibook G4 :))

    thanks

Did you use the Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows first? Or did you install Windows through Parallels first?

If you want to use both virtualization (Parallels or Fusion) and Boot Camp, you should first install Windows with the Boot Camp Assistant. Then when you install your virtualization software, you will be able to use the same Boot Camp partition.

Also, you need to hold Option during the startup to select the Windows/Mac startup disk.

It came to me already set up with a user account. I booted up and click parallels and it starts up XP. It's got 512MB of ram to it with parallels. I'm still wondering if I should just use the boot camp assistant.
