This is a picture of my guitar. Someone put it upright for me. when I move it to my desktop in leopard the picture turns sideways!

I had another picture that showed it was upright. But when I double click it to view it is is sideways.

This picture here looks the same but works properly http://glocktalk.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=146397&d=1206468841

What is different here? I'm concerned many of the photos I take with my camera will not show up properly or pictures I take from the web will be incorrect.

The second picture seems to be straight from the camera. It has no orientation property in its metadata, which could mean why OS X is not rotating it.

The first picture seems to have been compressed (it's about half the size), and has an orientation property.

You are aware that rotating a picture can be easily done in OS X using either iPhoto or Preview. I suppose that there must be some setting in the application used to compress the photo which is making it rotate automatically.

How do you rotate an image in preview?

Hold in Command and press L or R. Alternatively, go to Tools and select Rotate Left or Rotate Right. Alternatively, after adding the Rotate button in the tool bar by right clicking on it and selecting Customize Toolbar, click it.

Don't forget to save your image afterwards by holding in Command and pressing S. Alternatively, go to File and click on Save. Alternatively...you get my point :p
