Well I'm going to look into purchasing a new lid and seeing how hard it is to replace it. I was wondering though, would pinstriping the lid void the warranty? Similar to this but i'm just going to get it pin striped. If I were to just pinstripe it, think apple would void my warranty?

That looks mad cool. Since it's removable, I wouldn't think it would affect the warranty. Then again with Apple, who what excuses they could come up with.

That's where i'm at right now, I know its removable but I'm sure if they want to deny me any future warranty work this would just give them more reason to do so.
And if I call apple, i'm sure I won't get a straight answer or one that will hold up to anything if I do ever have to take it in for whatever reason.

As humor, you could have the warranty still valid, but then they decide to "repair" your laptop.

Yeah, it is a tough call man. I'd just do it. The cool factor alone will bound to get you some sympathy points in case you are denied a repair.

I think I am to be honest. I'm tired of taking out my macbook and having it look like the 100 others in class.

That is why I have a tabletPC. The girls are just all over me when I "whip" it out.

You do know that the lid and screen is all one piece?

I wouldn't do it. The aluminum lid is plenty smexy. If you're trying to be different, buy a funky hat or dye your hair green!

buy a removable sticker/decal. if youre drawing on it i dont see how that would void the warranty, seeing that you could say it doesnt affect performance.

If having a notebook that looks like everyone else's, maybe you should just pick up a different laptop.

I'd just skin it. Gelaskins now has a custom service, if I'm not mistaken.

Now that's not really a good answer to my question.

But thanks for everyone's input, I'll post pictures once its completed.
Going to get it done this week.

    Thanks for this link man!

Just for more information, this all started with getting work done on my Lian Li case on my i7 box. While he was here doing the prep work, he in pencil did a quick design on the lid of my mbp. I saw it and started googling for pictures of more but couldn't really find any. I toyed with the idea for awhile but I was a bit reluctant as I just purchased the notebook about 3 months ago. He's going to come to my house and do the work on my Lian Li this week, I had him send me an revised invoice with my mac on it. And I okayed it.

Now I just don't know what colors, and i'm leaning towards white, blue and green. Any suggestions?

On a side note, I remember seeing a sticker you could you place on or under the apple to change its color. The website that sold them only sold these stickers; and they were like 1.99 for one and 5.99 for a pack of 5. They were translucent too. Anyone know what i'm talking about here?

Screw White. I'd just go with blue and green and some teal splashed in.

These guys have a cool pinstripe pattern already available as a "MacTatt" in the MacStyles series - They support all MacBook and MacBook Pro sizes too, and its just a protective sticker... No warranty risks here. I've got one on the way to me, but there are lots of options here that may get you what you're looking for...

One more thing... I've used MacStyles on my Black MacBook and I will be using on my MBP13. Their product has the best install medium, and comes of easily, while maintaining a good hold when you want it to, but comes off cleanly when its time to take it off.

    Highly, highly recommended.

I'm too nervous to take any extreme measures to change my MBP cosmetics-wise, so I'm going to put a drawing/multiple drawings underneath my Speck case!

Skinit.com has some good stuff, and you can custom make with your own pictures...
