Anyone getting eye strain or headaches from the new Macbook screens?

Just trying to see if its me. Also wondering if it's just a bad streak of headaches, which has happened before. So anyone else having headaches from or it?

I do spend about 6+ hours staring at the screen, should I try taking more breaks maybe?

Sorry for so many questions, just hoping its not the screen as I love my macbook.

If you are showing these symptoms from staring just at the screen then its from the LED backlighting.

    6+ hours??!!
other than sleeping, most of the stuff done for 6 hours straight will make you sick. Try to take a break after 2 hours.

Yep, I agree with this one. If you are staring at the screen for 6 hours without a break, any monitor could make you feel bad. Take a break every 1-2 hour, or even every 45 minute. Just stand up and move a bit, and look at something far away, and something green. If you don't look at the time while using the computer, set a clock to remind you :D .

Ya I guess that all makes sense. It's just on my pc I played some computer games and basic email, IM and browsing. But I have been so happy to be back to Mac I am doing everything I want. I use my digital camera a bunch now as all I do is plug it in and boom its downloaded. I don't have the maintenance of my windows box so I find using my MB is just more fun and it has consumed me!

Ah well, it is good to enjoy your mac right? But thnx all, everything in moderation :)

    I follow a few simple exercises>

. roll your eye balls every so often after long period of staring at LCDs

. blinking to moisturise the eyes

. neck movements now and then whilst closing your eyes.

    cheers ...

Go into your display setting and calibrate your display to use the TV gamma. This helps make the most of the screens contrast ratio.

LED displays can be very bright and often folks are more comfortable at less than maximum brightness so try turning it down until its as dim as you can get it an still see everything comfortable without noticeable strain.

Depending on your environment you may want to make sure the auto brightness feature is on or off. For some people in some places it works great "on" but for others or in some places you'll want to manually override it using FN buttons or turn it off.

And yes, take breaks away from the screen at least 5 minutes out of every hour.

I had the same problem a few months ago with a vaio FZ180E and sold it, it had the extra brightness back lights, my real problem with the eyes were burning even if I lowered the brightness and all settings, right now I'm using a compal and my eyes are ok but I'm expecting my new 17" macbook pro 2.66 GHz tomorrow or friday , I think if you stay away from the computer for a few days it'll go away just my opion , good luck

The glossy screen probably does not help either.

Another possible headache is if you like to trade stocks and use Scottrade. :( Many of the right click buttons don't work among a list of other features that they offer.

Wow. If you did not know, reflections on screens make you strain your eyes more. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, CRT monitors had optional anti-glare screen covers to reduce glares and reflections. People had eye strain from the reflections and glare on their monitors. For some reason now, everybody lives with all the reflections and glare on their glossy LCD screen now.

Glossy is okay if you use it in a very dark room. Otherwise, it is annoying and ridiculous.

It's not just you. I was using my friend's iMac last summer, the first Mac I had used with a glossy display. After an hour or two my eyes felt really strained, even with the brightness down low. I forgot all about it, and a few months ago purchased a Macbook Pro. After using it for a day or two, I suffered really bad eye strain. I asked at the Apple Store and the guy I spoke to said he had heard others complain about eye strain from the glossy displays, but it was still quite rare. I'm used to sitting infront of screens for hours on end, and the only time I've had eye strain like this has been when using one of these new Apple glossy displays. I ended up buying a anti-glare film for the Macbook screen, (just search on Apple Store) fitted it and my eyes have been fine ever since.

My new MBP screen does tend to bother me over long use, so I tend to work with it under minimum brightness, even in a well-lit environment.

I recently got a herniated disk. :( Be sure to think about your back when you sit for hours behind the computer. Spent 4 days in the hospital and was unable to walk or stand on my leg due to the pain.
