I'm looking at buying a new mac notebook when Leopard comes out. I'll either opt for the MacBook Pro or the MacBook (if they possible have a midcycle bump to the new Santa Rosa platform).
Wont be playing any games on it, but don't want to buy a laptop with the old napa platform. So if there's no update i'll just get a MBP, but if they bump up the MacBook to SR by then, i'll probably opt for that.
What are the chances of a midcycle update to SR?

No one knows. Your guess is as good as mine.

As Budding said, no one knows. I voted they will because I think eventually they will upgrade to SR, but it may be a while. They really want to have separation between the MB and MBP, and right now there is a very clear separation.
-
Plus, SR just isn't all that.

I think the Santa Rosa platform does have marked benefits (faster front side bus, more power efficient and greatly improved integrated graphics - X3100) yet even if they bump up the MacBook specs to Santa Rosa there is still a very clear distinction between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro...
Just doesn't make sense to me to leave the lower spec notebooks with older technology just to maintain clear distinction between them? -
There is pretty clear distinction IMHO between MB and MBP...LED LCD, LCD size, CPU speed (not just SR vs Napa), integrated GPU vs dedicated GPU, amount of standard ram.
I voted there probably will be an update...when Leopard comes out in Oct that will be 6 months from the last MB update. 6 months is a long time in the computer industry. Even Apple typically has updates every 180-270 days. I doubt the chassis/case will change, but it's easy enough to update the guts. -
New integrated graphics would have been nice. The rest of it is not that great of an improvement. The CPUs are pretty much the same speed. The bus speed is marginal, and the LED screens are not a required SR component.
The current MacBooks are pretty stong, the old IG not withstanding.
Possible midcycle bump to SR for the MacBook's by October?
