Hope Apple is ready to move to an AMD or Intel based motherboard chipset as it is confirmed that Nvidia does NOT have a licencing agreement for all the next generation CPU's ( Nehalem, i3, i5, i7 ). And if there isnt a board already in development we may not see new cpu's for a couple of refreshes

We've received a number of inquiries recently about NVIDIA's chipset (MCP) business. We'd like to set the record straight on current and future NVIDIA chipset activity.

On Intel platforms, the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M/ION brands have enjoyed significant sales, as well as critical success. Customers including Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, ASUS and others are continuing to incorporate GeForce 9400M and ION products in their current designs. There are many customers that have plans to use ION or GeForce 9400M chipsets for upcoming designs, as well.

On AMD platforms, we continue to sell a higher quantity of chipsets than AMD itself. MCP61-based platforms continue to be extremely well positioned in the entry CPU segments where AMD CPUs are most competitive vs. Intel

We will continue to innovate integrated solutions for Intel’s FSB architecture. We firmly believe that this market has a long healthy life ahead. But because of Intel’s improper claims to customers and the market that we aren’t licensed to the new DMI bus and its unfair business tactics, it is effectively impossible for us to market chipsets for future CPUs. So, until we resolve this matter in court next year, we’ll postpone further chipset investments for Intel DMI CPUs.

Despite Intel's actions, we have innovative products that we are excited to introduce to the market in the months ahead. We know these products will bring with them some amazing breakthroughs that will surprise the industry, just as GeForce 9400M and ION have shaken up the industry this year.

We expect our MCP business for both Intel and AMD to be strong well into the future.

Ion chipset and 9400s are still going but they cant compete with the new archatecture unless its in netbooks and low end laptops. Just pay the damn Licencing fee and let Intel make an SLI motherboard for cripes sake Nvidia.

    They aren't playing well together...

Apple can easily use Intel chipsets, but I fear what it might do for the low end.. the 9400M still trounces anything Intel has, or will release anytime soon.

I'd have no problem seeing a AMD/ATI Mac with no Intel or nvidia

but heats up more and consumes a little more power...

i'd have a great problem with it because amd releases more heat than intel and as we all know, the mac is made up of aluminum

Actually, if Apple can get the Phenom II and the latest ATI GPU in there, it will not be "more" heat than Intel based machines, but it also will compete head-to-head or better than some i7 core machine with low end GPU.

    cheers ...

Maybe they will apply the Intel + ATI combo. I would like to see that :).

does that mean intel integrated graphics on the bottom end?

    yikes.

that makes me want to see a custom solution entirely from amdati.

how nice would it be if they could whip up something slick like a 5670 + 5200 crossfire with a phenom ii x4.

the only reason i would want this is that amd can play nice with itself and get the whole job done.

Probably would mean better drivers for a start.

*idly wonders if there's any historical reason for that being the case with most ATI vs NVidia GPU's on OS X as of late*
