Ok people I know I am not the only one out there when I say I am getting A Mac book this yearits going to but me in the hole but who gives a crap I want one.

Are you Getting one?
-
What if you're just thinking about it, but not for sure yet?
-
yeah but i am so stuck on it
i love macs
for those who love the macs for the design
the macbook can run windows but apples not helping with that at all( i don't blame the, Windows need to be shut) -
O.K., then I've got to say, I'll wait for the Merom MacBook Pros before I make my decision. The new MB (not PB anymore!) Pros are pretty slick though

Ever since my iPod having problems in the first 4 months
of owning it has put me off to Apple and now I don't think I will EVER buy a Apple product again
Apple wouldn't even talk to me or e-mail me about it...
I got more help from my dog on getting it working when he jumped up on my desk and made it fall and that got the iPod working
If Apple reforms their customer service and product quality let me know and I might consider an Apple again...

It's a very nice design, but the hardware inside it is at least overcharged by about $300 compared to equivalent specced Windows notebooks.
I wasn't able to convince myself that the $300 premium is worth it for the design and software alone. I will wait for the ibook refresh, then maybe looking into the possibility of o/c the puppy... heh
On the other hand, I thought it was kinda funny that just half a year ago, Apple's propaganda was how much more powerful the G5 is compared to P4... now suddenly the iMac is "2 times faster than the G5 iMac!" holy ****, only Apple can pull such an about-face with their marketing mumbo-jumbo because their fanboys are all too busy soaking up the glory that is Mr. Jobs...
It really IS a cult... <sigh>
cheers,
yass -
gonna get a macbook as soon as it has merom in it, that baby is mine
-
Tbird, A friend of mine who used to have a 4th gen ipod had it die on him 4 times, and each time they promptly replaced it. And on the 4th time, he pushed a little harder, and they sent him a new video ipod for FREE! No upgrade cost to him at all.
Yassarian, yeah thats versus the P4, this is the yonah chip that they are using which also puts the P4 to shame (or at least it should). -
I agree with Radcom - I've always gotten great service and tech support from Apple. All of their tech guys seem well informed, polite and prompt when I talked to them. They're one of the few companies that actually have tech support based in North America.
-
Why don't you get your friend to tell me how he "got in so good" with Apple, I had to push for a replacement and then had to pay shipping and another fee...
Yet again please notify me when Customer service and product quality @ Apple gets better
-TBird -
i don't know if he had to pay shipping costs or not, maybe he had to when he sent the gen 4's to apple, but he for sure didn't have to pay for the new gen 5. Personally i also think apples CS is one of the better ones out there. Although i just remembered he was on the phone for a good half hour one time, but he was able to get results.
-
D%$M I tried talking to a person at Apple CS and they barely knew what an iPod was!!!
And then I said That the hard-drive may not have been working and the person said "what??" and said he had to go get his manager... OMG
I know 3 YEAR OLDS that know what a hard-drive is but this guy didn't seem to...
-TBird -
Was this "guy" an Apple representative? I can't believe that.
-
idk but I know I called the Apple customer support and got that idiot...
Maybe he had a hangover or something...
-TBird -
That's pretty bad - did you get his name? If so, I'd report him to Apple's Customer Support Line. I always try to get the tech's name before I talk to them - it's a good tactic against things like this.
-
No, It was quite a while ago...
I didn't ask his name because all I was worried about was getting my iPod fixed
But I just thought that Apple could give me some more help than a hungover guy who didn't know what a HD was...
-TBird -
He didn't know what a HD was
? Now that's pretty low
-
Unless he was so stoned and hungover that he had forgotten
-TBird -
It is in fact a very powerful chip, but of course not quite twice as fast as a P4, anyway if Apple's current claim of it being 2x faster than G5 is to be believed, then that would simply mean that their *previous* claim of the G5 being 2x faster than P4 is just a load of crap.
But most ppl knew that anyway... hehe
Enough about their shady marketing practices, this chip really is quite amazing -- a good 2-part preview article is here:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2648
very in-depth too, it would appear that pretty much only the higher clocked AMD dualies can trump this beast, and those are all desktop chips drawing in substantially more power... Very nice processor.
Of course the $300 question here is, whether the same cpu (offered at a lower clock speed even), is worth the apple premium.
cheers,

Tbird,
not to be rude but I think you should try really calling apple customer service...I think you'd be surprised...I've been dealing with Apple for years, and every time I've had an issue it has been rectified in an organised, friendly and timely manner. What you have told us may be true, but I somehow doubt that anyone that clueless with computers would ever want a job in Apple tech-support, let alone be hired.
Yass,
I am a big Mac fan, and I'd have to agree that Apple has a cult following...haha...In regards to the comparison between the G5 and the P4 processors, you have to remember that the application performance was also influenced by the OS. I'm curious to see how the same applications perform with the same hardware on Windows vs OSX. Thanks for the Yonah link. -
Well, we'll have to wait and see whether the new Intel CPUs will perform better than their G4/G5 predecessors. I believe the new CPUs will increase multitasking processes more than anything else though.
-
Its my option against the Sony VAIO ZE.
-
TBird,
Pray tell what computer maker do you recommend with better customer service than Apple? I want one of those!

In regards to the power/performance debate, I got a chance to get my hands on one of the new iMacs this weekend. It was running 10.4.4 with 1GB of RAM. It was the 2GHz Duo model and in comparision to the G5/1.8GHz DP machine I use at work (2GB RAM) I have to say this new machine flies. It would be more than substantial for any home user. I was able to launch all the main iApps (iDVD, iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes) in under 10 seconds (that's clicking the icons in the dock real quick-like making them all open at the same time)
The guts of the MacBook and the iMac are very similar, so draw your own conclusions (notebook hard drive being the only significant difference I can see - but it is a large one). -
Don't forget the screen! The iMac currently offers an option of a 17" screen or a 20" screen, whereas the MB Pro only has a 15.4" screen. But otherwise yes - the iMac and the MB Pro basically have the same internal components.

I beg to differ, though I can't comment on your experience without knowing the whole story, my friends (2 of them) got their iPODs replaced when it gave up after 10 months or so and that too 1 guy had bought his from EBay. That is real nice and I have only read good things about Apple Support with only a few exceptions.
Like I say, if you want to really appreciate an IBM Thinkpad, you should have first owned any other PC, likewise, if you want to appreciate an Apple iPOD and their support, you should first own any other MP3 player. -

IBM could be a good start

My parents have a e-mac and it's ok, I just don't like the OSX interface. I prefer Windows XP. If you want perfect customer service just build your own computer. My Duron 1.3 Ghz Desktop is 5 years old and I still use to play games and surf the web.
