    Hey!

I have a PowerBook G4 (15") laptop and I'm running into a small but very irritating problem with this Linksys Wireless Router (RT54G 54Mbps Wireless-G Cable/DSL Broadband Router) that I just bought and set up. I can totally connect to the internet HOWEVER, every other time I get online my internet freezes and I have to unplug the router and plug it back in for the internet to start working properly again; OR my computer will tell me that there was an error in joining the network and if I try to plug into it, I am told that I am NOT conected to the internet. Errrrrrrg! I'm not sure what the deal is but I would really like to just get online without having to trouble shoot the router every other time I want to be on the internet.

Soooooo .... I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what the deal is with the router.

Thanks for taking the time to read this over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Sounds like the router might be having issues, possibily a defect.

Does your wifi work fine else where?

I have a router issue as well:

bought a netgear 56 mbps router last week, installed it, had a working connection.

however, my macbook just flaty REFUSES to connect with the router; it gives me an "there was an error in your connection to the wireless network".

although it has no problem so far connecting with public libraries and coffee shops.

so in frustration, I returned the netgear.

try upgrading the firmware on your router. it will most likely have older firmware which may have some bugs. alot of times a newer firmware version will solve many problems.

Move your router to a different location and change the channel on it. If you have a cordless phone, or a neighbor does it can interfere. Also, keep the router and the cable/dsl modem away from each other and the computer. They are very sensitive to electric fields around them.

I used to have the same problem with my older linksys router and my iMac and all my other PC notebooks. The connection would drop-out and sometimes reconnect, but more often than not, I had to reset it.
I found the problem was the thing had burned out some how. I'd also check the other components of your network as well, such as your main wired router. Also, is it the linksys a wireless router or a wireless access point? I've heard of problems arising because people use both a wired and wireless router, which can sometimes cause major problems.

Thank you for the help out there! After a couple more weeks of trouble shooting headaches, I've decided to return the **** thing and get a netgear router instead.
