So I'm looking to buy a 12" Powerbook. I wanna know how the OS X and application performance is on the 867MHz and 1330MHz versions. And is it possible to replace the dvd-drive?

They are nice machines one thing to keep in mind is though is that Leopard is reported as not supporting the 876mhZ G4 processor. It maybe better for you to get the 1.3mhz or the 1.5mhz 12 inch Powerbook instead. The ram limits of the 1.3mhz PowerBook is 1.25GB.
The iBook 12 inch 1.33mhz maybe a better bet as that has a better graphic card and it also can support 1.5GB of ram and they also have a scrolling trackpad as well.
I bought a iBook G4 1.42,1.5GB of ram not that long ago and it perfomed ok. It was not my only computer at that time though.
It seems that support for PPC are now declining in time.
I don't know if this will be your only computer if it will be you won't be able to run Windows programs. You can get Virtual PC for PPC but they are so slow i tried it and it was really really slow i wouldn't recommend it.
You can get some refurb MacBook now that are going quite cheaply. -
Nah, don't like the macbook. This won't be my only computer or the main one, this is merely a cool new toy. Besides, the iBook is not nearly as pretty as a powerbook. So the 1,3GHz it is.

Fara, you may want to note that there are rumours that Leopard will be the last PPC version of OS X...so the next release of OS X, Lynx/Cougar (predicted for 2009 release) may be Intel only. I don't know if you plan to keep the Powerbook G4 that long, but just a heads up
.

Meh, getting one cheap. I'm not even sure if i'm gonna install leopard on it, so all's good. If I'll get a mac as my main computer, I'll get something then, and it'll be nehalem based.

What are you gonna do on it just play in OSX?
