    Hi,

I am an avid photographer, and am looking for something to store my photos on while on long trips. I was originally looking at a photo storage unit such as those by epson, or something like an Archos or Creative machine to simply download the pics onto, when I realized for less price, I can buy a refurbished/used 12" powerbook. While the powerbook is larger, it comes with much greater functionality (ie. it's a computer, not just a media player).

I realize the 12" powerbook is old technology, but the form factor and price seem like a great idea.

    Any thoughts?

It sounds like a great idea, not only do you get it in a nice looking package but you also get the increased functionality, as you mentioned yourself.

Now you can edit photos on the road as well :)

Yeah, but I think the idea here is that Guest wants to save some money, and buying a sony dual core would probably go pretty high in budget.

As for the 12" Powerbook if you can get it refurbished and its a G4, I think it'd be worth it, especially since you can run the adobe suite really well on it. I'm assuming since your a photographer you have experience with the program.

    Thumbs up from me.

I looked on Apple for one to get the price on them, they didnt currently have one.

Actually I think you mean core solo :)

As for the original poster, a PBG4 12" sounds like a good deal for you. I've wanted one for some time myself :) Maybe I'll buy one some day... or I can hope for a MBPro 12" ;)

    Guest,

Your idea sound great, but do keep in mind that though the laptop you are looking for may cost the same as a good portable hard-drive; what these drives offer is a more robust drive in a more portable package. As a keen photographer myself, I find that there are times when I just can't lug a laptop with me, no matter how small and portable it may be; hence, the use of these "small" hard-drives come in pretty handy when I need to free up my camera's memroy cards.

Still, your idea is an excellent one - I guess I am just jealous that I spent all that money on a portable hard-drive when I could have "invested" the same amount into something more usefull!
