    They did this to an extent in the U.S. The Mac Mini in particular got a price increase on the base model, and the education discounts are now lower. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out for them. Apple may be letting their increased popularity go to their heads. I don't really see any cost effectiveness in the Mac Mini or even the iMac anymore, which will set you back $1800 just to get a mid-range dedicated graphics card.

    As a serious question, are the "upgrades" profound enough to produce that kind of increase?

    I would say no. The base Mini still comes with 1GB of RAM (1GB? Seriously?). The iMac has got some decent processors and you can get a 24" cheaper than before, but like I said, you've got to lay down $1800 just to get a mid range graphics card.

    definitely not. its a premium product, but i'm starting to become a little leery of apple's price gouging.

    The only thing in the US that got a price raise was the Mac Mini, iMac and Mac Pro prices dropped.
