We've been trying different clients to chat with back and forth from a pc to a mac, iChat to AIM, yahoo, etc. Each one we try there is a prob, audio on one end, no video on the other, etc. Has anyone had a succeful video chat between a pc and a mac? If so how???

I had problems before, i think it has to do with one of the settings on the ports on the firewall. You can search it on the apple website. I have connected with an HP laptop using AIM

Yeah, I'd say +1 for Skype, as it's been the most reliable, fast, and it's free! Always been great for me, and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat! :)

I only use ichat with other macs. When video chatting with someone on a PC I always use Skype. It works perfectly on mac/mac and mac/pc.

In order to have successful chat communications between any system, there are certain port and router settings that must be enabled.

Ports - For most com programs, Ports 80, 443, 5223 (TCP) must be enabled via Port Forwarding or Port Triggering; on many current Routers, enabling Quality of Service (QoS) under Applications and Gaming (for Linksys anyway, similarly titled for others) will already have the necessary Ports setup for applications like Skype, Windows Messenger and many others.

The other key setting is that Network Address Translation (NAT) MUST be enabled. For Linksys routers you can find this setting under the Advanced Routing section of the Setup link after accessing the router admin panel via your browser.
