I've been contemplating installing a clean copy of OSX on my machine lately as I've installed and removed quite a few apps and i'm sure theres files lurking around my hdd wasting space!

Is there an application that will scan the hdd and remove junk? (kind of like CCleaner for windows)

I was thinking about clean installing OS X but decided not to with the pending release of Leopard! Can't wait Woot!

Your best bet would be just to do a spotlight search, but failing that..

You can download a HDD use scanner - such as OmniDiskSweeper or GrandPerspective etc, which basically shows you where your space is allocated in an organize fashion.

There's no registry in OSX, so no need to worry about that part - most of the files you're looking for would most likely be in one of the Libraries, unless you installed them through terminal.

Use App Zapper when deleting applications you have installed.

I use 'AppDelete' to delete applications installed by dragging into the Application folder.

For applications installed by an installer, the installer can usually uninstall the application. (like safari 3 beta, little snitch etc.)
