Greeting all,
I am considering purchasing a 256g SSD for my late 2008 MBP. Of course the speed increase is a given, however I have read in numerous reports that SSDs significantly reduce heat.
If I were to replace the HDD with an SSD will heat issues disappear completely or will the MBP still be too hot for a lap due to heat generated by the video card?
Thanks in advance for any information. Usually I would just try something like this myself, but this would be a significant $$ investment. I have been waiting for a while, but it doesn't appear the SSDs in 256g+ have any intention of coming down in price...cheapest with demonstrated reliability via other users seems to be a Corsair 256g at newegg for $649.00.

it might. but wait for the new macbooks, as they will introduce the newer intel solid states then. much faster, and just as cool. most likely, available for your macbook, too.

It will cool your machine slightly but 95% of the heat is generated by the cpu/gpu and not the drives.

Thanks crazycanuk, that's what I was looking for...when I fire up World of Warcraft, it gets crazy hot and the fans kick into high with much of the temperature on the left where the screen meets the keyboard. Doesn't really affect operation, just hot and noisy lol.
I've been searching to find an open schematic of what is located there (they used to be everywhere, now I can't find one for anything) thinking it may be the HDD, but based on your note, it's probably the GPU. -
Most heat comes from the GPU/CPU.
Also there is no need to wait for new macbooks. The new Intels SSDs are out now.
Question - Does MBP SSD Significantly Reduce Heat?
