If you are a college student and you buy a Macbook, or Macbook Pro you can get a free $199 rebate from Apple that you can use towards the purchase of an iPod Nano, or Video. However I couldn't seem to find whether you could use it towards an iPhone. Sorry if this has been stated before (I tried searching the forum). If you can use it on the iPhone, then that would be a great deal.

Also, my first post on these forums. I've been browsing for the past week, seems like a great community. :)

Oh okay thanks. That's unfortunate that they don't let you use it for the iPhone. :(

Hey also, you do know they give a $200 discount, and then a free 4 GB IPOD Nano?!?!?! Not just $200 towards an IPOD Nano.

It's a $199 rebate credit toward any IPOD. So, if you want $249 Video Ipod, it'll cost you $50 after rebate.

God that's confusing. I have no idea what you said.

What they actually do is give you up to $200 credit towards the purchase of any iPod. This means you buy any iPod, pay for it upfront, send in the MIR, and you will receive up to $200. This means you can get the Shuffle or either Nano for free (no money back though :p) and the iPods will be $200 less.

you can always sell the iPod on ebay or something
keep it new and it will go for almost retail price...then use the money for whatever.

Just to clarify...If you read the link I originally posted, the Shuffle and 2GB Nano are explicitly excluded from this deal.

Here is what Apple says [excerpt from the aforementioned link]:

2GB iPod nano, iPod shuffle, Mac mini, Apple TV, iPhone, and refurbished products are not eligible.

What I'm saying is that they first get you a $200 discount off all of their notebooks (maybe even desktops, not sure). AND THEN you are able to get a $199 mail-in rebate for an IPOD. Thats what I'm trying to say. Although now I realize you were just talking about the Ipod mail-in rebate, you probably already knew about the notebook discount.

the pro systems - macbook pro and mac pro - have a $200 discount.

the consumer systems - the macbook and the imac - have a $100 discount.
