I'm considering purchasing the Apple mini dvi to video converter, and using a standard composite video cable to hook my MacBook to my TV. The only thing that I plan to use this for is watching rented movies from iTunes. I'm concerned about quality on my 52" hdtv though. It doesn't need to be perfect, but I would like it to be viewable. I already have the audio figured out, so that's not a problem. Does anybody know how the quality of the video will look? All help is appreciated.

Your Macbook will be able to output 1080p onto your HDTV, but movies rented on iTunes are not High Definition. Therefore, you will be able to watch your movies on your HDTV, but you will not be able to get high definition quality playback.

Like crap. Composite is limited to 480i and since all colors go through one analog channel, you will have color bleed. VGA, DVI, HDMI, or Component will look much much better especially on a 52" screen.

Oh yeah, Composite is awful. You will want the Component adapter or HDMI adapter.

Get a dvi or vga out adapter. I would recommend dvi out. Then get a dvi to hdmi converter on ebay. The quality is excellent because i have done this myself.

Nope, dvi only carries video. If you want surround sound get an optical out cable and you can get up to 5.1 surround sound.
When I finally....get an hdtv i'm gonna have a mac mini hooked up to probably a 500gig external drive. It should serve as a great media center as well as browsing the web on a big scree. I plan to connect the mac mini to the tv with a dvi to hdmi adapter. And hook up 5.1 audio with an optical cable. The only downside is that this 480p sony rear projection has been lasted forever and shows no sign of stopping soon. Its a large picture but thats about all i can say about it, the color's aren't great and the picture is fairly dark.
