There are several reasons Apples are not presently on my radar screen at the moment (for example, lack of independent graphics memory in the 13 inch, 15 inch too expensive), but the deal killer at this point deals with the fact that I do some writing in German. I need a German spell and grammer check. I could buy the German version of Word for Apple, but believe it changes the keyboard--when typing in German--to the German keyboard which switches the y and z. That is a hassle.

On a Windows computer I can use a product called "Proofing Tools" which gives me the German spell and grammer check while leaving my keyboard the same (i.e. US style). I believe Apples come with a version of spell check for German but not the grammer check. I want both. Has anyone heard of a Proofing Tools type product for Apples or a way to use German Word without changing the keyboard?

Thanks! That was very helpful. Apparently, the new office for mac has German spell and grammer check built in.

Hmm. Not sure why the program would change the keyboard layout, normally it would leave that up to the system. But if you say so, I guess Microsoft are special :)

Never had any such issues, I use Swedish keyboard layout (on an Irish keyboard, running English OS X) for everything.

According to the site cashmonee gave me, the new Office for Macs has a German spell and grammer check. Hopefully, it won't mess with the keyboard. When I had a German version of Word loaded, it set the keyboard to the German sytle....
