I am planning on buying a new macbook pro 13 inch in mid july. Now I have many programs on this computer like photoshop. Would it be possible for me to transfer and install those programs without having to reinstall them. I have the programs legally its just that i dont have the disk for it anymore plus i dont want to go through the hassle of calling adobe and try to get my license or product key and download it. Would i have to reactivate the software using my license key or does everything jsut transfer over and install itself? I am a bit confused on how to do it or how it works so yeah. I also have office 08 and the installation and updates for that took forever.

You will need to call Adobe. The software will reconize the new computer and will not run till you call. You maybe required to manually transfer your data files.

I was going to make a thread just like this one, but I might as well post it here to prevent buildup of unnecessary threads.

Hi,
Absolute "noob" here when it comes to file transferring. I suck at network sharing, folder sharing, printer sharing, pretty much any kind of sharing. I'm trying to back up all of my files on my notebook so I can later transfer them to a different notebook. I'm trying to figure out time machine but can't really decipher everything. I have an external hard drive with a plenty room to spare for my notebook's hard drive. What should I do to transfer all of my files? Ideally I would like to transfer all settings and stuff like that too so when I set up my new notebook I could just import everything. Is this possible?
Thanks. -

Generally speaking when you do a complete time machine back up in hopes of transferring the files onto a new computer we be rest assured this is something you can do! However a common misconception is migration assistant. All migration assistant does is transfer just the User/Home folder. That is all, it will not transfer anything out of the applications or the utilities. However if you want to transfer the entire volume of the computer onto a new computer that can be done as well. What you would need to do is boot to the install CD and and restore the volume from there. Keep in mind when I say 'Volume' I mean the entire volume in which the OS was installed on, so that includes Applications, network settings and the home folder.
