Hi there,
I am a Windows software developer and recently I decided to develop some software for iPhone. I decided to buy a Penryn based Macbook Pro for both Windows developing and iPhone developing.
I have read some threads talking that Windows does not run smoothly on Macbooks because of bad coded Bootcamp or drivers, for example fan speed is too low or too high so that makes the machine too hot or too noisy.
I want to know if those problems are still there with the latest Penryn Mackbook Pro and Bootcamp 2.0.1. Since I will use Windows most of the time if I buy a Macbook Pro, it is not acceptable for higher heat and noise.
Thank you.

I have a new Macbook Pro and run Windows Vista 95% of the time. I usually only use OS X for Garage Band or Logic Pro.
That being said I've had no problems at all with Windows Vista Ultimate (x86) the Bootcamp drivers are very solid. Well with the exception of the included Nvidia driver. Though Laptopvideo2go.com has many new ones to choose from for performance purposes.
I leave my 17" Macbook Pro on 24/7 and have had no problems at all with overheating. In fact the only time it gets noticeably warm is when I'm gaming.
Hope this helps
Cheers! -
Windows work on MacBook Pro with out any issues, including 64 bits, you only need to provide the right drivers.
I have had more issues with my z60m, T61 and HP nw8440 than with MacBook hardware in terms of stability of Windows XP and Vista.
As an example my nw8440 with XP SP2, run fans at medium speed with out any load, and it's very loud.
The MacBook are warm at touch, normal it's metal case and apply the thermodinamycs to know why MacBook Pros are warmed than others.
I have several notebooks, HP DV9700, HP nw8440, ThinkPad Z60m, T61, T41, MacBook Black, PoweBook 17", MacBook Pro 15" and the new in the family MacBook Pro 17" and by far the MacBook Pro 17" is the best, a balance between funtionality, aesteticals , performance and reliability.
The maximum noise level I ever hear from the second generation MacBook Pros is the minum of several others as Dell XP17xx and ThinkPad T61.
There are other issues related to Windows that are not related to the MacBook, you have to tune up your windows and do not load all this bloatware that we usally load on our machines.
How is possible that a news reader consume over 200 Mb of memory and use 25% of cpu always on a 7700 CPU?
It's just me opinion perhaps other should have better or worst experiences. But I learned a symple rule, my work machine haveonly the esentials tools to do my job. I have other machines to make some test. -
The only issue I noticed about Windows on a Mac (well, at least on my Macbook) is that it drains the battery faster. Of course, if you leave it connected to the power supply, you'll have no issues.

Thank you, all. Very helpful.

And yes, the fan management is bad in Windows, so the fans don't run fast enough when idling. This means the MacBook Pro runs a little hotter in Windows than OS X. Nothing to really worry about, but don't keep it on your lap. When the MBP is taxed, however, the fans do spin up as normal.
