Hi,
Just so I can quote something official in people's faces when they stupidly ask about installing Windows on a Mac on forums, could someone just give me a good official response I can give?
Thanks!

What... are you talking about?
-
What are you talking about? Theres no problem installing windows on a mac...
-
Doh you're right
I read him as saying installing OSX on a PC...
I need more sleep >< -
I'm just still wondering what the question is, lol.
-
He asking if it legal to install mac os on a window computer.
-
I don't think so. I THINK he's talking about if it's legal to install Windows on a Mac.... which it is. "Installing Windows on a Mac" not "Mac on a Windows"
-
From the OS X license agreement.
-
That's not legislation though... that's a license agreement. Whether it's legally binding or not is a separate question, as is what would legally qualify as an "Apple-labeled computer".
The fact is, neither the U.S. congress nor any legislature I know of has passed legislation specifically addressing the issue of installing OS X on a PC... and I've never heard of any court anywhere making any ruling about it either way. -
A computer that has the apple symbol on it. DUUUHHHHHHH. And i think on cnet they did say that getting osx to run on a pc is kinda horrible. Not to mention you are breaking some fedral code i think. Thats what they said.
-
But Macs can install Windows fine...
-
There is no federal code that explicitly states that you are not allowed to use OSX on a non-apple computer. If you do so, you would be breaking a license agreement, and by doing so, breaking the United States Copyright Act. However, actual punishment (if any) has yet to have been tested in a court of law.
As a side note, I don't see how it's hard to distinguish between an "Apple-labeled computer" and a "Non Apple-labeled computer".
On the flip side, I believe only the Vista Ultimate and XP licenses allow you to virtualize them, such as with Parallels. -
well you can draw an apple on it, or get one of those apple stickers and put it on, and TECHNICALLY it's apple-labeled.
-
Honestly, do you really think that will stand in court?
Wait...a woman is suing Apple for not allowing WMA on iPods. Man I hate the court system. -
lol, anything can stand in court in America.
-
I had no trouble at all getting leopard to run on my PC..
-
...and banned.
Is this you?

What should we say, congrats?
Discussion on running OS X on non-Apple hardware is not allowed here on NotebookReview.
I know it can get complicated when looking at EULAs and such, but here on NotebookReview, the policy is clear: there is absolutely no discussion or support allowed regarding running Mac OS X on any computer but a Macintosh. -
I wont discuss it anymore, but I will say that It swayed my opinion of Apple quite a bit, don't see why they have such a problem with it.
-
Because that is one of the reasons why Mac OS X is good; Apple knows the hardware that runs it from top to bottom, and they know what they're planning to use next, and they can write drivers for that. If Apple licensed OS X to just anyone like Microsoft did, they'd have all the driver issues that Microsoft does whenever they release a new operating system. And some driver issues still aren't fixed a year in (Vista).
-
I am sure the diehards would still buy from Apple, but if they could offer Leopard to everyone for $129.99 they would take a serious slice of MS market share.
Would it take a lot of $ and work, yeah it would, but in the end Apple would be raking in the $$ -
Well yes. That is pretty much the only reason Microsoft has such a monopoly in the OS department. Apple just refuses to license it to run on third party hardware.
But again, as SAM said, that's what makes OS X so fast and reliable. It's specifically built to be optimized for the hardware apple offers, instead of being very scalable. -
I would never want apple to take to much from MS otherwise they could become the next MS. LOL. I like apple the way they are now.

Yes, thanks, I was talking about the illegality of installing Mac on a PC. Thanks system_159 - that's just what I was wanting! and Lithus also - thanks!
Sorry for making myself unclear. I myself also needed more sleep!
