I have a 2008 middle model Macbook, and it usually runs at 1799rpm (according to iStat). I've noticed that ever since I added more PhotoBooth effects (the bundle that comes with 48 new effects or something), my MacBook starts to overheat and get all noisy. At this point, my HD is spinning at 6000+ rpm. Is this normal/safe? Could it be the extra effects that I added that's making my Mac act this way? Are there any tools that I can download to diagnose/find out what's causing this?

P.S. The same thing happens when I run VisualBoy Advance.

    Thank you in advance!

That's your fan rpm, not your HD. MB stock drives runs at 5400rpm (nominal) regardless of system load.

Obviously your system (processor) is stressed thus causing the fan to spin up. :)
