I just got this from newegg

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146701

Tried installing and when i boot up my macbook pro it just beeps twice and keeps doing that until i shut the computer off. I tried taking it apart four times but no go? Reviewers said it is compatible but it won't work? Do you think the sticks i got are defective? Or am i doing something wrong? I just put the original 2 gigs back in and everything works fine. Help?

Perhaps your MacBook Pro is first or second generation and do not support 4 GB.

I have a second generation MBP and I have 4GB in it and it works perfectly. That shouldn't be an issue. Might be an issue with the first generation, but I doubt it. It'll just not use the extra RAM, but should still boot.

I would have suggested you make sure the RAM is properly seated, but if you've done it 4 times, and tried the original 2GBs and it works, then I'm assuming you've probably done it properly. The RAM may well be defective. When I changed my RAM, it just booted up with no complaint.

Ok well just figured out my problem. One of the 2gig sticks doesn't work. So now i just have 3 gigs running. Should i contact newegg to get a replacement or the company?

Since you just got it, as long as you didn't cut out the UPC for the rebate yet, newegg will usually replace it for you. It's probably easier than contacting the manufacturer for a replacement.

Yeah i contacted newegg and they said they would replace it i just have to send them back. I wish i could just send the defective one, but instead i have to send both of the sticks. It really pisses me off because i leave for college in four days and i know i won't have it in time.

That really sucks. I'm leaving for school soon so I just went to Frys and picked up the 4gb Kingston for the same price as the ocz/mushkin on newegg.
