    1. Although everyone seems to want the priciest and most stylish sleeve for their MB and MBP, I have never ever seen anyone walk around with their notebook in only a sleeve. If that's the case, why not get something that functions but isn't super-stylish (like the Tom Bihn Brain Cell) and put that inside whatever bag you're using?

    2. Even with the recent MS flops and the rise of Boot Camp and virtualization, Apple's personal computing still retains only 2-3% of the consumer market share - and has made essentially no inroads into the business community. On the other hand, in a quick glance around my class today in a self-admitted predominantly Windows environment, every single person who had a notebook out had either a white MB or a MBP. Not a representative sample of a market, but definitely a representative sample of a certain portion of a certain profession.

    3. With the rumored Penryn MBP coming out in January, I wonder how much money I'd be out if I sold my MBP in Dec for the holiday rush and used the proceeds for the new MBP?

    4. MBP's new compact 85W power adapter - backordered by 2 months! I wonder if they just stopped producing these now that MBPs in general are backordered?

    5. Poor MB - it doesn't even get a ranking in the "Popular Apple Laptops" section to the left here on these forums...

    6. Wonder how many people will be disappointed if the Jan 08 Penryn MBP uses the same chassis?

    7. It seems every other person around me has an iPhone now - who wants to volunteer to donate one to me?

    8. In retrospect, if I'd waited to get my 1st choice in laptops (the Asus V1B) instead of the MBP I have now, I still probably would have believed I made the right choice, but would've been so wrong in ignorance. I don't think I've ever regretted my MBP purchase for even a second after I've gotten it.

Well, I for one am expecting the Jan 08 MBP to use the same case or they may even forgo that refresh completely. The Montevina platform is coming in Q2 2008 along with 1067MHz FSB Penryns and DDR3 SODIMMs, so I think if Apple were to do an external redesign, they might as well couple it with an internal platform redesign so that the MBP would be completely new. The Penryns coming in Jan 08 will continue to use 800MHz FSBs and be drop in compatible with the current Santa Rosa platform. With Montevina being the more significant platform, Apple really aught to get onboard quickly, so either they release 2 MBP versions in 3 months, or they are goin g to have to skip one or the other.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Brenthaven cases ftw!

    2. Apple has done a great job, but as you stated, it is still no competitor of Microsoft. With a recent turnover of $51billion, Microsoft is still by far the most powerful software house around.

    3. I would personally not recommend you to do that. It's not like Apple to release software only compatible with their latest models, so your current MBP will be more than sufficient at running whatever's going to come for many years ahead. It would practically be a waste of time and money. I have plenty of friends with 12" powerbooks, and to be quite frank, I'm quite jealous of them, as those powerbooks looks so much nicer than my plastic macbook, and run everything I run just fine.

    4. Dunno.

    5. Yeah, 12" powerbook rox.

    6. Not me. I wouldn't care. Altough a new design would be a bonus. 12" titanium MBP is what I want.

    7. I don't have iphone, and I don't know anyone that has one. The specs of the device is simply too poor. No 3G, no MMS messaging, no free ringtones, no J2ME, no OS X, no push E-mail, no speed dial, no bluetooth sync, etc. Blackberries and nokia N series dominate around here.

    8. What else is new :p

    2. I think whats happening here is probably an age thing. I see that around me too. If youre young, more likely you want an apple laptop. I think its almost just a stylish thing to have. Also I think its a preconception in anything design related, that you need an Apple computer. Ive used photoshop, and flash and other programs on windows for years, and the switch to mac hasn't changed the programs or anything. Unless Im missing something, (other then colour profiling) its exactly the same. Although when I go into a class with mainly engineers, they all have "normal" laptops, thers only a couple people with MB's. Also you have to admit that apple computers are more expensive then normal pcs, so Im sure that has a big thing to do with it.

    6. I think apple will have a different chasis for the new mbp, cause its been similar since the powerbook g4, and with the redesign of a lot of their products, maybe theyll come out with a new design. I'll be upset if they do, cause then itll be obvious that i have an older laptop ; p

    7. i wish i saw more iphones, in canada theyre still a rarity since unlocking isnt mainstream yet.

    8. id agree with you on this one. If i didnt get a mbp, id have gotten a dell 1520, with almost the same specs, and I woulda probably been happy with it.

    7. I like my iPhone i just don't understand some decisions apple makes with it.

    1) Same. I don't see much sleeves in use around here.

    2) It depends where you're looking. Worldwide, yes, its about only 4% market share right now. In America, where Apple is more known, the market share has increased to nearly 7%, I've heard. And I think in the next few years, the Mac market share will rise; possibly even into the business and server community.

    3) If you sold for about $1500, you'd probably get your MBP sold, as long as its in a good condition.

    5) I've always wondered that too :p. Interestingly, the MacBook is actually the top selling Mac notebook since its release; I don't know why its missing off this list.

    6) They'd probably complain that the MBP was still using the same design since the aluminum Powerbook G4. While it still looks great, it really is time to change the design a bit. But I don't think the re-design is going to happen with Penryn, I've got a feeling its Nehalem in Q2 2008 that will bring a re-design of the MBP.

    7) I have yet to see an iPhone in person :p. No iPhones in Canada yet, and haven't seen any American tourists with them.

    8) Sounds great :). ASUS has been having some problems lately...battery life, poor customer support...I hope they get it back together. They made some awesome notebooks.

1 - Heh I have a cheapo neoprene sleeve so I can throw the MBP in my backpack

2 - Apple sells like 20% of all new laptops in the U.S. now. And it's on a huge upsurge - though starting from a very marginal position - in the rest of the world. Lots of people never even heard of Apple before the iPod

    3 - Don't do it.

4 - I want that one too. I am sick of my 2lb brick!

6 - Yes, I will be very disappointed! It looks great, but come on, update the freakin' design. There needs to be a black pro laptop from Apple.

    2. Yes, Apple notebooks are on the rise among the young perhaps more than anywhere else. Those numbers will continue to increase.

    5. Haha, didn't even see that until now.

    6. Don't touch the design! It's perfected already :) I would be disappointed if Apple did change the design.

    7. Don't worry, it's still only available in the US, so most of the world doesn't have one yet :p

    6. I believe with the new chips on the way, esp, with montevina, it may be possible to make the chassis lighter and smaller, some sites I have visited say as much as 25%. Now that will be progress in the right direction.
